At the end of four years, Absalom said to the king,“ Let me go to Hebron and fulfill a vow I made to the Lord.

After Absalom had lived in Jerusalem for four years, he went and spoke to the king. He said,“ Let me go to Hebron. I want to keep a promise I made to the Lord.

And at the end of four years Absalom said to the king,“ Please let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to the Lord, in Hebron.

Then Absalom came to the king and said,“ Kindly note, your servant has sheepshearers; please, let the king and his servants go with your servant.”But the king said to Absalom,“ No, my son, let us not all go now, lest we be a burden to you.” Then he urged him, but he would not go; and he blessed him.Then Absalom said,“ If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us.” And the king said to him,“ Why should he go with you?”But Absalom urged him; so he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.

Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

Now the Lord said to Samuel,“ How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.”And Samuel said,“ How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” But the Lord said,“ Take a heifer with you, and say,‘ I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’

So Absalom fled and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

And he sent them to Bethlehem and said,“ Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.”

“ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; How much more when he brings it with wicked intent!
