Now David had been told,“ Ahithophel has sided with the conspirators who are with Absalom. So David prayed,“ Make the advice of Ahithophel foolish, O LORD!”

有人向大衛報告說：「亞希多弗也在叛黨中，隨從押沙龍。」大衛就禱告：「耶和華啊，求你使亞希多弗的謀略變為愚拙！」

或告大闢曰、亞希多弗從押沙龍、在叛黨之中。大闢曰、願耶和華以亞希多弗之謀、變為不智。

Now David had been told,“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” So David prayed,“ Lord, turn Ahithophel’s counsel into foolishness.”

David had been told,“ Ahithophel, along with Absalom, is one of the people making secret plans against you.” So David prayed,“ Lord, make Ahithophel’s advice look foolish.”

And it was told David,“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said,“ O Lord, please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”

When someone told David that his adviser Ahithophel was now backing Absalom, David prayed,“ O Lord, let Ahithophel give Absalom foolish advice!”

Then someone reported to David,“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.”“ LORD,” David pleaded,“ please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”

Now someone informed David, saying,“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said,“ Lord, please make the advice of Ahithophel foolish.”

Then someone told David, saying,“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said,“ O Lord, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”

And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Jehovah, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

Then someone reported to David:“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.”“ Lord,” David pleaded,“ please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”

And[ one] told David, saying, Ahithophel[ is] among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

Someone told David, saying,“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” David said,“ Yahweh, please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”

When Ahithophel realized that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and returned to his house in his hometown. After setting his household in order, he hanged himself. So he died and was buried in the grave of his father.

Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said,“ The advice of Hushai the Arkite sounds better than the advice of Ahithophel.” Now the LORD had decided to frustrate the sound advice of Ahithophel, so that the LORD could bring disaster on Absalom.

Such wisdom does not come from above but is earthly, natural, demonic.

Even my close friend whom I trusted, he who shared meals with me, has turned against me.

In those days Ahithophel’s advice was considered as valuable as a prophetic revelation. Both David and Absalom highly regarded the advice of Ahithophel.

LORD, how numerous are my enemies! Many attack me.

With him are strength and prudence; both the one who goes astray and the one who misleads are his.He leads counselors away stripped and makes judges into fools.He loosens the bonds of kings and binds a loincloth around their waist.He leads priests away stripped and overthrows the potentates.He deprives the trusted advisers of speech and takes away the discernment of elders.

Where is the wise man? Where is the expert in the Mosaic law? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made the wisdom of the world foolish?

The officials of Zoan are nothing but fools; Pharaoh’s wise advisers give stupid advice. How dare you say to Pharaoh,“ I am one of the sages, one well-versed in the writings of the ancient kings?”But where, oh where, are your wise men? Let them tell you, let them find out what the LORD who commands armies has planned for Egypt.The officials of Zoan are fools, the officials of Memphis are misled; the rulers of her tribes lead Egypt astray.The LORD has made them undiscerning; they lead Egypt astray in all she does, so that she is like a drunk sliding around in his own vomit.Egypt will not be able to do a thing, head or tail, shoots and stalk.At that time the Egyptians will be like women. They will tremble and fear because the LORD who commands armies brandishes his fist against them.The land of Judah will humiliate Egypt. Everyone who hears about Judah will be afraid because of what the LORD who commands armies is planning to do to them.At that time five cities in the land of Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the LORD who commands armies. One will be called the City of the Sun.At that time there will be an altar for the LORD in the middle of the land of Egypt, as well as a sacred pillar dedicated to the LORD at its border.It will become a visual reminder in the land of Egypt of the LORD who commands armies. When they cry out to the LORD because of oppressors, he will send them a deliverer and defender who will rescue them.The LORD will reveal himself to the Egyptians, and they will acknowledge the LORD’s authority at that time. They will present sacrifices and offerings; they will make vows to the LORD and fulfill them.The LORD will strike Egypt, striking and then healing them. They will turn to the LORD and he will listen to their prayers and heal them.At that time there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will visit Egypt, and the Egyptians will visit Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together.At that time Israel will be the third member of the group, along with Egypt and Assyria, and will be a recipient of blessing in the earth.The LORD who commands armies will pronounce a blessing over the earth, saying,“ Blessed be my people, Egypt, and the work of my hands, Assyria, and my special possession, Israel!”

Guard against self- deception, each of you. If someone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become foolish so that he can become wise.For the wisdom of this age is foolishness with God. As it is written,“ He catches the wise in their craftiness.”And again,“ The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”

While he was offering sacrifices, Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s adviser, to come from his city, Giloh. The conspiracy was gaining momentum, and the people were starting to side with Absalom.

He frustrates the plans of the crafty so that their hands cannot accomplish what they had planned!

The Egyptians will panic, and I will confuse their strategy. They will seek guidance from the idols and from the spirits of the dead, from the pits used to conjure up underworld spirits, and from the magicians.

They surround me and say hateful things; they attack me for no reason.

Then one of the twelve, the one named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priestsand said,“ What will you give me to betray him into your hands?” So they set out thirty silver coins for him.

“ What I am saying does not refer to all of you. I know the ones I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture,‘ The one who eats my bread has turned against me.’

Indeed, it is not an enemy who insults me, or else I could bear it; it is not one who hates me who arrogantly taunts me, or else I could hide from him.

How can you say,“ We are wise! We have the law of the LORD”? The truth is, those who teach it have used their writings to make it say what it does not really mean.Your wise men will be put to shame. They will be dumbfounded and be brought to judgment. Since they have rejected the word of the LORD, what wisdom do they really have?

We would share personal thoughts with each other; in God’s temple we would walk together among the crowd.May death destroy them! May they go down alive into Sheol! For evil is in their dwelling place and in their midst.
