The camp will be ready to move when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the sacred articles. The Kohathites will come and carry these things to the next destination. But they must not touch the sacred objects, or they will die. So these are the things from the Tabernacle that the Kohathites must carry.

Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were the priests. Seraiah was the court secretary.

Sheva was the court secretary. Zadok and Abiathar were the priests.

Only Abiathar, one of the sons of Ahimelech, escaped and fled to David.

Seven priests will walk ahead of the Ark, each carrying a ram’s horn. On the seventh day you are to march around the town seven times, with the priests blowing the horns.

The Ark of God was captured, and Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were killed.

“ Command the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant to come up out of the riverbed.”So Joshua gave the command.As soon as the priests carrying the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant came up out of the riverbed and their feet were on high ground, the water of the Jordan returned and overflowed its banks as before.

giving these instructions to the people:“ When you see the Levitical priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord your God, move out from your positions and follow them.

This area is set aside for the ordained priests, the descendants of Zadok who served me faithfully and did not go astray with the people of Israel and the rest of the Levites.

The king also told Zadok the priest,“ Look, here is my plan. You and Abiathar should return quietly to the city with your son Ahimaaz and Abiathar’s son Jonathan.

After the battle was over, the troops retreated to their camp, and the elders of Israel asked,“ Why did the Lord allow us to be defeated by the Philistines?” Then they said,“ Let’s bring the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord from Shiloh. If we carry it into battle with us, it will save us from our enemies.”So they sent men to Shiloh to bring the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, who is enthroned between the cherubim. Hophni and Phinehas, the sons of Eli, were also there with the Ark of the Covenant of God.When all the Israelites saw the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord coming into the camp, their shout of joy was so loud it made the ground shake!

It was the harvest season, and the Jordan was overflowing its banks. But as soon as the feet of the priests who were carrying the Ark touched the water at the river’s edge,the water above that point began backing up a great distance away at a town called Adam, which is near Zarethan. And the water below that point flowed on to the Dead Sea until the riverbed was dry. Then all the people crossed over near the town of Jericho.Meanwhile, the priests who were carrying the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant stood on dry ground in the middle of the riverbed as the people passed by. They waited there until the whole nation of Israel had crossed the Jordan on dry ground.

But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and David’s personal bodyguard refused to support Adonijah.

and these were his high officials: Azariah son of Zadok was the priest.Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, were court secretaries. Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the royal historian.Benaiah son of Jehoiada was commander of the army. Zadok and Abiathar were priests.

In the morning Joshua said to the priests,“ Lift up the Ark of the Covenant and lead the people across the river.” And so they started out and went ahead of the people.

Then he commanded,“ No one except the Levites may carry the Ark of God. The Lord has chosen them to carry the Ark of the Lord and to serve him forever.”

But he gave none of the wagons or oxen to the Kohathite division, since they were required to carry the sacred objects of the Tabernacle on their shoulders.

Zadok and Abiathar, the priests, will be there. Tell them about the plans being made in the king’s palace,

Ahitub was the father of Zadok. Zadok was the father of Ahimaaz.Ahimaaz was the father of Azariah. Azariah was the father of Johanan.Johanan was the father of Azariah, the high priest at the Temple built by Solomon in Jerusalem.Azariah was the father of Amariah. Amariah was the father of Ahitub.Ahitub was the father of Zadok. Zadok was the father of Shallum.

So Joshua called together the priests and said,“ Take up the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant, and assign seven priests to walk in front of it, each carrying a ram’s horn.”

Then the king appointed Benaiah to command the army in place of Joab, and he installed Zadok the priest to take the place of Abiathar.

After the men who were carrying the Ark of the Lord had gone six steps, David sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf.
