Zadok and all the Levites who were with him were carrying the ark of the covenant of God. When they positioned the ark of God, Abiathar offered sacrifices until all the people had finished leaving the city.

Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were priests; Seraiah was scribe;

Sheva was the scribe, and Zadok and Abiathar were the priests.

But one of the sons of Ahimelech son of Ahitub escaped and fled to David. His name was Abiathar.

Have seven priests carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the horns.

The ark of God was taken, and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phineas, were killed.

Now the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phineas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.When the ark of the covenant of the LORD arrived at the camp, all Israel shouted so loudly that the ground shook.

When the ones carrying the ark reached the Jordan and the feet of the priests carrying the ark touched the surface of the water–( the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest time)–the water coming downstream toward them stopped flowing. It piled up far upstream at Adam( the city near Zarethan); there was no water at all flowing to the sea of the Arabah( the Salt Sea). The people crossed the river opposite Jericho.The priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firmly on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan. All Israel crossed over on dry ground until the entire nation was on the other side.

But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and David’s elite warriors did not ally themselves with Adonijah.

These were his officials: Azariah son of Zadok was the priest.Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, wrote down what happened. Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was in charge of the records.Benaiah son of Jehoiada was commander of the army. Zadok and Abiathar were priests.

Joshua told the priests,“ Pick up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people.” So they picked up the ark of the covenant and went ahead of the people.

Then David said,“ Only the Levites may carry the ark of God, for the LORD chose them to carry the ark of the LORD and to serve before him perpetually.

But to the Kohathites he gave none, because the service of the holy things, which they carried on their shoulders, was their responsibility.

Zadok and Abiathar the priests will be there with you. Everything you hear in the king’s palace you must tell Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

Ahitub was the father of Zadok, and Zadok was the father of Ahimaaz.Ahimaaz was the father of Azariah, and Azariah was the father of Johanan.Johanan was the father of Azariah, who served as a priest in the temple Solomon built in Jerusalem.Azariah was the father of Amariah, and Amariah was the father of Ahitub.Ahitub was the father of Zadok, and Zadok was the father of Shallum.

So Joshua son of Nun summoned the priests and instructed them,“ Pick up the ark of the covenant, and seven priests must carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark of the LORD.”

The king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada to take his place at the head of the army, and the king appointed Zadok the priest to take Abiathar’s place.

Those who carried the ark of the LORD took six steps and then David sacrificed an ox and a fatling calf.
