大衛王回到耶路撒冷自己的宮裡，就把以前留下來看守王宮的那十個妃嬪捉起來，關在禁宮裡。王供養她們，卻不再親近她們。她們被禁閉，過著寡婦一般的生活，直到死的日子。

不要模仿這個世代，倒要藉著心意的更新而改變過來，使你們可以察驗出甚麼是神的旨意，就是察驗出甚麼是美好的、蒙他悅納的和完全的事。

耶和華啊！我的仇敵竟然這麼多。起來攻擊我的竟然那麼多。

耶和華這樣說：‘看哪！我必從你家中興起禍患攻擊你；我要在你的眼前把你的妃嬪拿去賜給你的同伴。他要在光天化日之下與她們同床。

現在，請把你婢女給我主帶來的這禮物，賜給跟隨我主的僕人。

亞比該急忙起來，騎上驢，帶著五個跟隨她的女僕，跟從大衛的使者去了，就作了大衛的妻子。
