Then Absalom sent spies through all the tribes of Israel who said,“ When you hear the sound of the horn, you may assume that Absalom rules in Hebron.”

Then Absalom sent secret messengers throughout the tribes of Israel to say,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpets, then say,‘ Absalom is king in Hebron.’”

Then Absalom sent messengers secretly to all the tribes of Israel. They said,“ Listen for the sound of trumpets. As soon as you hear them, say,‘ Absalom has become king in Hebron.’ ”

But Absalom sent secret messengers throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then say,‘ Absalom is king at Hebron!’”

But while he was there, he sent secret messengers to all the tribes of Israel to stir up a rebellion against the king.“ As soon as you hear the ram’s horn,” his message read,“ you are to say,‘ Absalom has been crowned king in Hebron.’”

Then Absalom sent agents throughout the tribes of Israel with this message:“ When you hear the sound of the ram’s horn, you are to say,‘ Absalom has become king in Hebron!’”

But Absalom sent spies throughout the tribes of Israel, saying,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say,‘ Absalom is king in Hebron!’ ”

Then Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say,‘ Absalom reigns in Hebron!’”

But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom is king in Hebron.

Then Absalom sent messengers throughout the tribes of Israel with this message:“ When you hear the sound of the ram’s horn, you are to say,‘ Absalom has become king in Hebron!’”

But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom reigneth in Hebron.

But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say,‘ Absalom is king in Hebron!’”

The following is a record of the armed warriors who came with their leaders and joined David in Hebron in order to make David king in Saul’s place, in accordance with the LORD’s decree:

But Absalom, whom we anointed as our king, has died in battle. So now why do you hesitate to bring the king back?”

So he said to his servants,“ Look, Joab has a portion of field adjacent to mine and he has some barley there. Go and set it on fire.” So Absalom’s servants set Joab’s portion of the field on fire.

Surely you put them in slippery places; you bring them down to ruin.How desolate they become in a mere moment! Terrifying judgments make their demise complete!

Afterward David inquired of the LORD,“ Should I go up to one of the cities of Judah?” The LORD told him,“ Go up.” David asked,“ Where should I go?” The LORD replied,“ To Hebron.”

When all the leaders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, David made an agreement with them in Hebron before the LORD. They anointed David king over Israel, just as the LORD had announced through Samuel.

Now sons were born to David in Hebron. His firstborn was Amnon, born to Ahinoam the Jezreelite.His second son was Kileab, born to Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite. His third son was Absalom, the son of Maacah daughter of King Talmai of Geshur.

David was king in Hebron over the people of Judah for seven and a half years.

that the elation of the wicked is brief, the joy of the godless lasts but a moment.Even though his stature reaches to the heavens and his head touches the clouds,he will perish forever, like his own excrement; those who used to see him will say,‘ Where is he?’Like a dream he flies away, never again to be found, and like a vision of the night he is put to flight.People who had seen him will not see him again, and the place where he was will recognize him no longer.His sons must recompense the poor; his own hands must return his wealth.His bones were full of his youthful vigor, but that vigor will lie down with him in the dust.“ If evil is sweet in his mouth and he hides it under his tongue,if he retains it for himself and does not let it go, and holds it fast in his mouth,his food is turned sour in his stomach; it becomes the venom of serpents within him.The wealth that he consumed he vomits up, God will make him throw it out of his stomach.He sucks the poison of serpents; the fangs of a viper kill him.He will not look on the streams, the rivers, which are the torrents of honey and butter.He gives back the ill-gotten gain without assimilating it; he will not enjoy the wealth from his commerce.For he has oppressed the poor and abandoned them; he has seized a house which he did not build.For he knows no satisfaction in his appetite; he does not let anything he desires escape.“ Nothing is left for him to devour; that is why his prosperity does not last.In the fullness of his sufficiency, distress overtakes him. the full force of misery will come upon him.“ While he is filling his belly, God sends his burning anger against him, and rains down his blows upon him.If he flees from an iron weapon, then an arrow from a bronze bow pierces him.When he pulls it out and it comes out of his back, the gleaming point out of his liver, terrors come over him.Total darkness waits to receive his treasures; a fire which has not been kindled will consume him and devour what is left in his tent.The heavens reveal his iniquity; the earth rises up against him.A flood will carry off his house, rushing waters on the day of God’s wrath.Such is the lot God allots the wicked, and the heritage of his appointment from God.”

All these men were warriors who were ready to march. They came to Hebron to make David king over all Israel by acclamation; all the rest of the Israelites also were in agreement that David should become king.

In Hebron he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned for thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

Each of them quickly took off his cloak and they spread them out at Jehu’s feet on the steps. The trumpet was blown and they shouted,“ Jehu is king!”

Absalom instructed his servants,“ Look! When Amnon is drunk and I say to you,‘ Strike Amnon down,’ kill him then and there. Don’t fear! Is it not I who have given you these instructions? Be strong and courageous!”

There Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet will anoint him king over Israel; then blow the trumpet and declare,‘ Long live King Solomon!’
