Then Absalom sent secret messengers throughout the tribes of Israel to say,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpets, then say,‘ Absalom is king in Hebron.’”

Then Absalom sent messengers secretly to all the tribes of Israel. They said,“ Listen for the sound of trumpets. As soon as you hear them, say,‘ Absalom has become king in Hebron.’ ”

But Absalom sent secret messengers throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then say,‘ Absalom is king at Hebron!’”

But while he was there, he sent secret messengers to all the tribes of Israel to stir up a rebellion against the king.“ As soon as you hear the ram’s horn,” his message read,“ you are to say,‘ Absalom has been crowned king in Hebron.’”

Then Absalom sent agents throughout the tribes of Israel with this message:“ When you hear the sound of the ram’s horn, you are to say,‘ Absalom has become king in Hebron!’”

But Absalom sent spies throughout the tribes of Israel, saying,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say,‘ Absalom is king in Hebron!’ ”

Then Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say,‘ Absalom reigns in Hebron!’”

But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom is king in Hebron.

Then Absalom sent messengers throughout the tribes of Israel with this message:“ When you hear the sound of the ram’s horn, you are to say,‘ Absalom has become king in Hebron!’”

But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom reigneth in Hebron.

Then Absalom sent spies through all the tribes of Israel who said,“ When you hear the sound of the horn, you may assume that Absalom rules in Hebron.”

But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say,‘ Absalom is king in Hebron!’”

預備打仗的兵來到希伯崙見大衛，要照着耶和華的話將掃羅的國位歸與大衛。他們的數目如下：

我們膏押沙龍治理我們，他已經陣亡。現在為甚麼不出一言請王回來呢？」

所以押沙龍對僕人說：「你們看，約押有一塊田，與我的田相近，其中有大麥，你們去放火燒了。」押沙龍的僕人就去放火燒了那田。

你實在把他們安在滑地，使他們掉在沉淪之中。他們轉眼之間成了何等的荒涼！他們被驚恐滅盡了。

此後，大衛問耶和華說：「我上猶大的一個城去可以嗎？」耶和華說：「可以。」大衛說：「我上哪一個城去呢？」耶和華說：「上希伯崙去。」

於是以色列的長老都來到希伯崙見大衛王。大衛在希伯崙耶和華面前與他們立約，他們就膏大衛作以色列的王，是照耶和華藉撒母耳所說的話。

大衛在希伯崙得了幾個兒子：長子暗嫩是耶斯列人亞希暖所生的；次子基利押是作過迦密人拿八的妻亞比該所生的；三子押沙龍是基述王達買的女兒瑪迦所生的；

大衛在希伯崙作猶大家的王，共七年零六個月。

惡人誇勝是暫時的，不敬虔人的喜樂不過轉眼之間嗎？他的尊榮雖達到天上，頭雖頂到雲中，他終必滅亡，像自己的糞一樣；素來見他的人要說：他在哪裏呢？他必飛去如夢，不再尋見，速被趕去，如夜間的異象。親眼見過他的，必不再見他；他的本處也再見不着他。他的兒女要求窮人的恩；他的手要賠還不義之財。他的骨頭雖然有青年之力，卻要和他一同躺臥在塵土中。他口內雖以惡為甘甜，藏在舌頭底下，愛戀不捨，含在口中；他的食物在肚裏卻要化為酸，在他裏面成為虺蛇的惡毒。他吞了財寶，還要吐出；神要從他腹中掏出來。他必吸飲虺蛇的毒氣；蝮蛇的舌頭也必殺他。流奶與蜜之河，他不得再見。他勞碌得來的要賠還，不得享用；不能照所得的財貨歡樂。他欺壓窮人，且又離棄；強取非自己所蓋的房屋。他因貪而無厭，所喜悅的連一樣也不能保守。其餘的沒有一樣他不吞滅，所以他的福樂不能長久。他在滿足有餘的時候，必到狹窄的地步；凡受苦楚的人都必加手在他身上。他正要充滿肚腹的時候，神必將猛烈的忿怒降在他身上；正在他吃飯的時候，要將這忿怒像雨降在他身上。他要躲避鐵器；銅弓的箭要將他射透。他把箭一抽，就從他身上出來；發光的箭頭從他膽中出來，有驚惶臨在他身上。他的財寶歸於黑暗；人所不吹的火要把他燒滅，要把他帳棚中所剩下的燒毀。天要顯明他的罪孽；地要興起攻擊他。他的家產必然過去；神發怒的日子，他的貨物都要消滅。這是惡人從神所得的分，是神為他所定的產業。

以上都是能守行伍的戰士，他們都誠心來到希伯崙，要立大衛作以色列的王。以色列其餘的人也都一心要立大衛作王。

在希伯崙作猶大王七年零六個月，在耶路撒冷作以色列和猶大王三十三年。

他們就急忙各將自己的衣服鋪在上層臺階，使耶戶坐在其上；他們吹角，說：「耶戶作王了！」

押沙龍吩咐僕人說：「你們注意，看暗嫩飲酒暢快的時候，我對你們說殺暗嫩，你們便殺他，不要懼怕。這不是我吩咐你們的嗎？你們只管壯膽奮勇！」

在那裏，祭司撒督和先知拿單要膏他作以色列的王；你們也要吹角，說：『願所羅門王萬歲！』
