And Absalom replied,“ Because I wanted you to ask the king why he brought me back from Geshur if he didn’t intend to see me. I might as well have stayed there. Let me see the king; if he finds me guilty of anything, then let him kill me.”

押沙龙回答约押说：“我打发人去请你来，好托你去见王，替我说：‘我为何从基述回来呢？不如仍在那里。’现在要许我见王的面；我若有罪，任凭王杀我就是了。”

押沙龙对约押说：“看哪，我派人去请你来，好托你到王那里去，说：‘我为何从基述回来呢？我仍在那里比较好。’现在让我去见王的面；我若有罪孽，就任凭王杀了我吧。”

押沙龙回答约押：“看哪，我派人去见你，说：‘请你到这里来，我要托你去见王，替我说：“我为什么从基述回来呢？我若是还留在那边，会觉得更好。”’现在，我要见王的面，如果我有罪，任由他把我杀死好了。”

押沙龍回答約押說：「我打發人去請你來，好託你去見王，替我說：『我為何從基述回來呢？不如仍在那裏。』現在要許我見王的面；我若有罪，任憑王殺我就是了。」

押沙龍對約押說：「看哪，我派人去請你來，好託你到王那裏去，說：『我為何從基述回來呢？我仍在那裏比較好。』現在讓我去見王的面；我若有罪孽，就任憑王殺了我吧。」

押沙龍對約押說：『你看，我打發人來見你、說：「請到我這裏來，我好打發你去見王、說：『我從基述回來為的甚麼？不如仍在那裏倒好啊。』現在請讓我見王的面吧；我若有甚麼罪愆，任憑王把我殺死好啦。」』

押沙龍對約押說：「看哪，我曾派人去你那裡說：『請你過來，我想委託你去見王說：「我何必從基述回來呢？我不如留在那裡。」』現在我要見王的面，如果我身上有罪孽，就讓他把我處死吧！」

押沙龍曰、我遣人召爾至此、欲使爾覲王曰、吾自基述而歸何為、不如仍居於彼、今請許我覿王面、如我有咎、王可殺我、

押沙龍曰、我遣使邀爾至此、欲爾覲王、以我意告之曰、我自其述至此何為、弗如仍居於彼、今盍許我入覲、如我有咎請王加誅焉。

押沙龍對約押曰、我遣人召爾來、欲爾往覲王、為我告王、曰、我自基述歸、何益之有、不如我仍居於彼、今我欲覿王面、我若有罪、任王殺我、

Absalom said to Joab,“ Look, I sent word to you and said,‘ Come here so I can send you to the king to ask,“ Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me if I were still there!”’ Now then, I want to see the king’s face, and if I am guilty of anything, let him put me to death.”

Absalom said to Joab,“ I sent a message to you. I said,‘ Come here. I want to send you to the king. I want you to ask him for me,“ Why did you bring me back from Geshur? I would be better off if I were still there!” ’ Now then, I want to go and see the king. If I’m guilty of doing anything wrong, let him put me to death.”

Absalom answered Joab,“ Behold, I sent word to you,‘ Come here, that I may send you to the king, to ask,“ Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still.” Now therefore let me go into the presence of the king, and if there is guilt in me, let him put me to death.’”

“ Look,” Absalom explained to Joab,“ I sent for you and said,‘ Come here. I want to send you to the king to ask: Why have I come back from Geshur? I’d be better off if I were still there.’ So now, let me see the king. If I am guilty, let him kill me.”

Absalom answered Joab,“ Behold, I sent for you, saying,‘ Come here, so that I may send you to the king, to say,“ Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me still to be there.” ’ Now then, let me see the king’s face, and if there is guilt in me, he can have me executed.”

And Absalom answered Joab,“ Look, I sent to you, saying,‘ Come here, so that I may send you to the king, to say,“ Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still.”’ Now therefore, let me see the king’s face; but if there is iniquity in me, let him execute me.”

And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it were better for me to be there still. Now therefore let me see the king’s face; and if there be iniquity in me, let him kill me.

“ Look,” Absalom explained to Joab,“ I sent for you and said,‘ Come here. I want to send you to the king to ask: Why have I come back from Geshur? I’d be better off if I were still there.’ So now, let me see the king. If I am guilty, let him kill me.”

And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur?[ it had been] good for me[ to have been] there still: now therefore let me see the king’s face; and if there be[ any] iniquity in me, let him kill me.

Absalom said to Joab,“ Look, I sent a message to you saying,‘ Come here so that I can send you to the king with this message:“ Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me if I were still there.”’ Let me now see the face of the king. If I am at fault, let him put me to death!”

Absalom answered Joab,“ Behold, I sent to you, saying,‘ Come here, that I may send you to the king, to say,“ Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still. Now therefore let me see the king’s face, and if there is iniquity in me, let him kill me.”’”

People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.

Show me this loyalty as my sworn friend— for we made a solemn pact before the Lord— or kill me yourself if I have sinned against your father. But please don’t betray me to him!”

Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said,‘ Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’”

But tormented by thirst, they continued to argue with Moses.“ Why did you bring us out of Egypt? Are you trying to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”

“ If only the Lord had killed us back in Egypt,” they moaned.“ There we sat around pots filled with meat and ate all the bread we wanted. But now you have brought us into this wilderness to starve us all to death.”

The man replied,“ It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it.”

No amount of soap or lye can make you clean. I still see the stain of your guilt. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!“ You say,‘ That’s not true! I haven’t worshiped the images of Baal!’ But how can you say that? Go and look in any valley in the land! Face the awful sins you have done. You are like a restless female camel desperately searching for a mate.

“ Then they will reply,‘ Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’

When Samuel finally found him, Saul greeted him cheerfully.“ May the Lord bless you,” he said.“ I have carried out the Lord’s command!”

Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God.

Are they ashamed of these disgusting actions? Not at all— they don’t even know how to blush! Therefore, they will lie among the slaughtered. They will be brought down when I punish them, says the Lord.

In their blind conceit, they cannot see how wicked they really are.
