此事實緣於爾臣約押、我主我王自具智慧、如上帝之使、天下事無不洞悉。

王之僕約押如是行、欲藉此以諫勸、我主之智慧、如天主使者之智慧、能知天下諸事、

Your servant Joab did this to change the present situation. My lord has wisdom like that of an angel of God— he knows everything that happens in the land.”

He did it to change the way things now are. You are as wise as an angel of God. You know everything that happens in the land.”

In order to change the course of things your servant Joab did this. But my lord has wisdom like the wisdom of the angel of God to know all things that are on the earth.”

He did it to place the matter before you in a different light. But you are as wise as an angel of God, and you understand everything that happens among us!”

Joab your servant has done this to address the issue indirectly, but my lord has wisdom like the wisdom of the angel of God, knowing everything on earth.”

婢女又心裏說：「我主我王的話必能使我達到安居之地」；因為上帝的使者怎麼樣，我主我王也怎麼樣：能聽出善惡來：惟願永恆主你的上帝與你同在。』

他又向我主我王讒毁了你僕人；然而我主我王如同上帝的使者一般。如今你看怎樣好，就怎樣行吧。

虛謊的舌頭引致毁滅；油滑的口造成敗跌。

『你曾進過海的淵源，或在深淵隱密處來往過麼？死亡的門曾為你開啓過麼？漆黑的門戶你曾見過麼？地的廣闊你曾領會過麼？你若全知道，只管訴說。『亮光之住處、其路在哪裏？黑暗呢、其地方在哪裏？你好帶到其境界，好看明到它家的路徑麼？你總知道的，因為那時你早已生下來！你年日的數目又大！『你進過雪庫，或見過雹倉麼？這雪雹乃是我所存貯，以備降災之時，交鋒爭戰之日的：你見過麼？霧氣從哪一路分開，東風從哪一路分散於地上呢？『誰為大雨水破分水道？為雷電開路線？使雨下於無人之地，無人居住的曠野，使窮荒淒涼之地得以豐足，渴澤之地能生嫩草呢？『雨有父親麼？露水珠是誰生的？冰出於誰的胎？天上的霜、是誰生的？諸水凝結如石頭，深淵上面蓋滿了冰。『你能繫住昴星的結麼？能解開參星的帶麼？你能按時引出十二宮星系，領導北斗和隨它的眾星麼？你知道天的定例麼？你能立它的統治權於地上麼？『你能向雲彩揚起聲來，使洶湧的水淹沒着你麼？你能打發閃電、叫它們走去，使它們對你說：「我們在這裏」麼？誰將智慧放給朱鷺？誰將明達賜給雄雞呢？塵土凝固如鑄造物，泥塊緊緊膠結，誰能用智慧去數算煙雲，將天上水袋傾倒下來呢？

大衛求問永恆主，永恆主說：『你不要一直上去；要繞到他們後頭，從桑樹林對面去攻打他們。

人以諂媚引誘鄰舍，是設羅網去絆他的腳步。

因為上帝知道你們喫的日子、你們的眼睛就開朗，你們就像上帝一樣，曉得分別善惡。』

請別讓我徇人情面；我也不將頭銜給人掛上。因為我不曉得給人掛頭銜；若這樣，造我的主就快要除滅我了。

論到祭偶像之物、我們曉得「我們都有知識」。但知識能自吹自大，惟獨愛能建立人。若有人自以為知道了甚麼，他還沒有按所應當知道的而知道呢。
