大衛在希伯崙生了幾個兒子：長子暗嫩，是耶斯列人婭希暖所生；次子基利押，是納巴爾的遺孀迦密人婭比蓋所生；三子押沙龍，是基述王塔爾邁的女兒瑪迦的兒子；

押沙龍生了三個兒子、一個女兒，女兒名叫塔瑪爾，是個容貌俊美的女子。

示劍的心迷戀雅各的女兒狄娜，他愛那少女，對她說安心話。

有一天，傍晚的時候，大衛從床上起來，在王宮的屋頂上走動。他從屋頂上看見一個女人在洗澡，這女人容貌極其美麗。

雅各愛拉結，就說：「我願意為你的小女兒拉結服事你七年。」

你心裡不要貪愛她的美色，也不要被她的眼簾勾引。

嫵媚是虛假的，美貌是虛幻的；唯有敬畏耶和華的女子必受稱讚。

於是雅各為拉結的緣故服事了七年；因他對拉結的愛，在他眼中看這七年如同幾天。

他把自己所擁有的一切都交託在約瑟的手中；有約瑟在，他除了自己吃的飯以外，什麼事都不理會。約瑟有著健美的身材、俊美的容貌。這些事以後，約瑟主人的妻子看上了約瑟，對他說：「與我同睡吧！」

神的兒子們看到人的女兒們美麗，就從中任意挑選，為自己娶來為妻。

事後，暗嫩非常恨惡她，甚至對她的恨惡超過先前對她的愛。暗嫩對她說：「你起來走吧！」
