在患難的日子裡，你當呼求我，我必搭救你，而你將榮耀我。」

他說：「孩子還活著的時候，我禁食、哭泣，是因為我想：『誰知道呢，或許耶和華會恩待我，讓孩子得以存活。』

「你當去，把所有在蘇薩中的猶太人都聚集起來，為我禁食，三天三夜不吃不喝；我和我的使女們也會如此禁食。然後我就去見王，雖然這樣不符合法令；我如果因此滅亡，就滅亡吧！」

耶和華啊，他們在危難中尋求你；你的管教臨到他們，他們就低聲向你傾心吐意！

我哭泣，以禁食刻苦我心，這卻成了對我的辱罵；

或許神會轉回、施憐憫，從他猛烈的怒氣中轉回，使我們不致滅亡。』」
