Then David sent word to Joab:“ Send me Uriah the Hittite.” So Joab sent Uriah to David.

So David sent this word to Joab:“ Send me Uriah the Hittite.” And Joab sent him to David.

One who conceals his wrongdoings will not prosper, But one who confesses and abandons them will find compassion.

But he denied it before them all, saying,“ I do not know what you are talking about.”

If you do well, will your face not be cheerful? And if you do not do well, sin is lurking at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.”

Then the Lord said,“ Because this people approaches Me with their words And honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me, And their reverence for Me consists of the commandment of men that is taught;

“ Though evil tastes sweet in his mouth And he hides it under his tongue,Though he desires it and will not let it go, But holds it in his mouth,Yet his food in his stomach is changed To the venom of cobras within him.

He said,“ What pledge shall I give you?” And she said,“ Your seal and your cord, and your staff that is in your hand.” So he gave them to her and had relations with her, and she conceived by him.Then she got up and departed, and removed her veil and put on her widow’s garments.When Judah sent the young goat by his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the woman’s hand, he did not find her.He asked the people of her place, saying,“ Where is the temple prostitute who was by the road at Enaim?” But they said,“ There has been no temple prostitute here.”So he returned to Judah, and said,“ I did not find her; and furthermore, the people of the place said,‘ There has been no temple prostitute here.’ ”Then Judah said,“ Let her keep them, otherwise we will become a laughingstock. After all, I sent this young goat, but you did not find her.”

Then Saul said,“ I have sinned; but please honor me now before the elders of my people and before all Israel, and go back with me, so that I may worship the Lord your God.”

And again he denied it, with an oath:“ I do not know the man.”

Then he began to curse and swear,“ I do not know the man!” And immediately a rooster crowed.
