耶路·巴力，也就是基甸，清早起來，率領眾人在哈律泉旁紮營，米甸人的軍營在他們北邊靠近摩利山的谷中。

押尼珥回到希伯崙的時候，約押就把他帶到城門的甕洞，裝作與他密談，乘機用短劍刺入他的肚子，把他殺死了，為他兄弟亞撒黑報了仇。

因此，那天他們稱基甸為耶路·巴力，意思是「讓巴力為自己辯護」，因為他拆毀了巴力的祭壇。

對你說，『你如今也跟我們一樣軟弱無能。』

撒瑪利亞的罪還不及你的一半，你做的事比她們做的更可憎，以致與你相比，你的姊妹倒顯得公義了。既然你幫了你的姊妹，使她們顯得公義，你就蒙受羞辱吧！因為你犯的罪比你姊妹犯的罪更可憎，以致她們顯得比你更公義。因此，你就自取其辱，抱愧蒙羞吧！

你的手沒有被捆，你的腳沒有被鎖，你是死在陰險小人的手裡啊！」於是眾人都為押尼珥哀哭。

求你救我脫離一切過犯，不要讓愚昧人嘲笑我。

隨後，亞比米勒去圍攻提備斯，佔領了該城。全城的人都逃進城中一座堅固的城樓內，鎖上大門，爬上樓頂。亞比米勒攻打城樓，走到城樓門口正準備放火時，有個婦人扔下一塊磨石，砸爛了他的頭。亞比米勒連忙對為他拿兵器的年輕人說：「拔刀殺了我吧，免得人們說，『一位婦人殺了他。』」於是，那年輕人刺死了他。
