少者曰、吾偶於基利波山、見掃羅倚其槍、車騎追襲甚急、

少者曰、我偶至吉破山、見掃羅倚於戟、車騎追襲於後。

來告之少者曰、我偶至基利波阿山、見掃羅倚於槍、戰車馬卒追襲其後、

“ I just happened to be there on Mount Gilboa,” the young man said.“ Saul was there too. He was leaning on his spear. The enemy chariots and chariot drivers had almost caught up with him.

And the young man who told him said,“ By chance I happened to be on Mount Gilboa, and there was Saul leaning on his spear, and behold, the chariots and the horsemen were close upon him.

“ I happened to be on Mount Gilboa,” he replied,“ and there was Saul, leaning on his spear. At that very moment the chariots and the cavalry were closing in on him.

The young man who told him said,“ By chance I happened to be on Mount Gilboa, and behold, Saul was leaning on his spear. And behold, the chariots and the horsemen had overtaken him.

Then the young man who told him said,“ As I happened by chance to be on Mount Gilboa, there was Saul, leaning on his spear; and indeed the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul was leaning upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and the horsemen followed hard after him.

“ I happened to be on Mount Gilboa,” he replied,“ and there was Saul, leaning on his spear. At that very moment the chariots and the cavalry were closing in on him.

And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

The young man who was telling him this said,“ I just happened to be on Mount Gilboa and came across Saul leaning on his spear for support. The chariots and leaders of the horsemen were in hot pursuit of him.

The young man who told him said,“ As I happened by chance on Mount Gilboa, behold, Saul was leaning on his spear; and behold, the chariots and the horsemen followed close behind him.

The Philistines set up their camp at Shunem, and Saul gathered all the army of Israel and camped at Gilboa.

If they cross the border of our land and go to Beth shemesh, we will know it was the Lord who brought this great disaster upon us. If they don’t, we will know it was not his hand that caused the plague. It came simply by chance.”

O mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew or rain upon you, nor fruitful fields producing offerings of grain. For there the shield of the mighty heroes was defiled; the shield of Saul will no longer be anointed with oil.

“ By chance a priest came along. But when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by.

Saul groaned to his armor bearer,“ Take your sword and kill me before these pagan Philistines come to taunt and torture me.” But his armor bearer was afraid and would not do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.When his armor bearer realized that Saul was dead, he fell on his own sword and died.So Saul and his three sons died there together, bringing his dynasty to an end.

So Ruth went out to gather grain behind the harvesters. And as it happened, she found herself working in a field that belonged to Boaz, the relative of her father in law, Elimelech.

Now the Philistines attacked Israel, and the men of Israel fled before them. Many were slaughtered on the slopes of Mount Gilboa.The Philistines closed in on Saul and his sons, and they killed three of his sons— Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malkishua.The fighting grew very fierce around Saul, and the Philistine archers caught up with him and wounded him severely.Saul groaned to his armor bearer,“ Take your sword and kill me before these pagan Philistines come to run me through and taunt and torture me.” But his armor bearer was afraid and would not do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.When his armor bearer realized that Saul was dead, he fell on his own sword and died beside the king.So Saul, his three sons, his armor bearer, and his troops all died together that same day.When the Israelites on the other side of the Jezreel Valley and beyond the Jordan saw that the Israelite army had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their towns and fled. So the Philistines moved in and occupied their towns.
