第七日日落以前，那城裏的人對參孫說：「有甚麼比蜜還甜呢？有甚麼比獅子更強呢？」參孫對他們說：「你們若不用我的母牛犢耕地，就無法猜出我的謎底來。」

看哪，他必如雲湧上；他的戰車如旋風，他的馬比鷹更快。我們有禍了！我們敗落了！

耶和華要從遠方、地極之處帶一國來，如鷹飛來攻擊你；這國的語言，你聽不懂。

非利士人攻打以色列。以色列人在非利士人面前逃跑，很多人在基利波山被殺仆倒。非利士人緊追掃羅和他的兒子，殺了掃羅的兒子約拿單、亞比拿達、麥基‧舒亞。攻擊掃羅的戰事激烈，弓箭手追上他，他被弓箭手射中，傷勢很重。掃羅吩咐拿他兵器的人說：「你拔出刀來，把我刺死，免得那些未受割禮的人來刺我，凌辱我。」但拿兵器的人不肯，因為他非常懼怕。於是掃羅拿起刀來，伏在刀上。拿兵器的人見掃羅已死，也伏在刀上跟他一起死。

追趕我們的比空中的鷹更快；他們在山上追逼我們，在曠野埋伏，等候我們。

在那裏有洗魯雅的三個兒子：約押、亞比篩、亞撒黑。亞撒黑的腳快如野地裏的羚羊；

我的日子如蒲草船掠過，如鷹俯衝抓食。

獅子－百獸中最勇猛的、無論遇見甚麼絕不退縮，

迦得人中有人到曠野的山寨投奔大衛，都是大能的勇士，能拿盾牌和槍的戰士。他們的面貌好像獅子，敏捷如山上的鹿。

耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅是來自甲薛的勇士，曾行了大事。他殺了摩押人亞利伊勒的兩個兒子，又在下雪的時候下到坑裏去，殺了一隻獅子。

約拿單對他說：「絕無此事！你必不至於死。看哪，我父做事，無論大小，沒有不告訴我的。我父親為甚麼要隱瞞我這件事呢？不會這樣的！」

大衛對掃羅說完了話，約拿單的心與大衛的心深相契合。約拿單愛大衛，如同愛自己的性命。
