到了第七天太陽未落以前，城裡的人就對參孫說：“有甚麼比蜂蜜還甜呢？有甚麼比獅子還強呢？”參孫對他們說：“你們若不是用我的母牛犢耕田，你們就不會猜出我的謎語的意思來。”

看哪！他必如密雲湧聚，他的戰車如旋風，他的馬比鷹還快。我們有禍了，我們滅亡了！

“耶和華必從遠方，從地極把一國的民帶來，像鷹一般飛來攻擊你；這民的語言你不會聽；

非利士人與以色列人交戰。以色列人從非利士人面前逃跑，有很多人在基利波山上倒斃。非利士人緊緊追趕掃羅和他的眾子，擊殺了掃羅的兒子約拿單、亞比拿達和麥基舒亞。戰爭激烈，掃羅受到猛烈的攻擊，弓箭手發現了他，射箭的人射中了他，他的傷勢嚴重；掃羅就對替他拿兵器的人說：“拔出你的刀來，把我刺透，免得這些未受割禮的人來把我刺透，戲弄我。”但替他拿兵器的人不肯這樣作，因為他非常害怕。於是掃羅拿過刀來，自己伏在刀上死了。替他拿兵器的人看見掃羅死了，他也伏在自己的刀上，與掃羅一起死了。

追趕我們的比空中的鷹還快；他們在山上追趕我們，在曠野埋伏攻擊我們。

洗魯雅的三個兒子約押、亞比篩和亞撒黑都在那裡。亞撒黑的腿輕快如野地的羚羊一般。

我的日子消逝有如快船，好像俯衝猛撲食物的鷹。

就是在百獸中最威猛的獅子，牠面對任何野獸，也不會退縮；

迦得支派中，有些人走到曠野的山寨去投奔大衛，他們都是英勇的戰士，善於作戰，能使用盾牌和長槍；他們的面貌好像獅子，他們敏捷得好像山上的羚羊。

甲薛人耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅，是一個力氣很大的人，作過許多大事。他曾經擊殺了摩押人的兩個勇將；又在下雪的時候，下到坑裡去擊殺了一隻獅子。

約拿單對他說：“絕對沒有這事，你必不會死。我父親作事，無論大小，沒有不讓我知道的，為甚麼這事他偏要隱瞞我呢？不會這樣的。”

大衛對掃羅說完了話，約拿單的心和大衛的心就深相契合。約拿單愛大衛如同愛自己的命。
