約拿單對拿軍器的青年護兵說：『來，我們過去、到這些沒有受割禮的人的駐防營那裏去吧；或者永恆主能為我們作一件事，因為永恆主拯救人、是不受人多或人少所牽制的。』拿軍器的護兵對他說：『隨你心所意向的行吧；看哪，我跟從你；你心意怎樣，我心意也怎樣。』約拿單說：『看吧，我們要過去、到那些人那裏去，讓他們看見我們。他們若這樣對我們說：「你們且止住，等我們到你們接觸」，那麼、我們就在我們的地方站住，不上他們那裏去。他們若這樣說：「你們上我們這裏來吧！」那麼我們就上去；因為永恆主將他們交在我們手裏：這就是給了我們的兆頭。』二人就讓非利士人的駐防兵看見；非利士人說：『看哪，有希伯來人從他們所藏的窟窿洞裏出來呢。』駐防營的人應時對約拿單和拿軍器的護兵喊着說：『你們上我們這裏來吧！有一件事我們要給你們知道。』約拿單就對拿軍器的護兵說：『你跟着我上去，因為永恆主將他們交在以色列人手裏了。』約拿單手腳匐在地上地爬上去，拿軍器的護兵跟着他；非利士人在約拿單面前倒下去，拿軍器的護兵也隨着殺死他們。約拿單和拿軍器的護兵起頭所擊殺的、約有二十人，大概都在一對牛能耕之地的半段之內。

我必讓我的箭醉飲鮮血、就是被刺死者和俘虜的血；我的刀必喫肉，喫仇敵的長毛頭目。」
