又不惜上古之世、降洪水於不虔者、惟存宣義之挪亞八人、

先古之世、其俗澆漓、為上帝所責、災以洪水、惟傳道義之挪亞、暨其眷聚八人得救、

亦未惜先古之世、以洪水罰彼不虔敬之惡世、惟救傳義道之挪亞等八人、

古時人欲橫流、天主亦不惜使洪水氾濫、僅有宣揚道義之諾厄及同伴七人得濟。

if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

God did not spare the world’s ungodly people long ago. He brought the flood on them. But Noah preached about the right way to live. God kept him safe. He also saved seven others.

if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;

And God did not spare the ancient world— except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood.

and if he did not spare the ancient world, but did protect Noah, a herald of righteousness, along with seven others, when God brought a flood on an ungodly world,

and didn’t spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood on the world of the ungodly;

Through these the world of that time perished when it was flooded.

By faith Noah, after he was warned about what was not yet seen and motivated by godly fear, built an ark to deliver his family. By faith he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

“ Just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man:People went on eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage until the day Noah boarded the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

in which he also went and made proclamation to the spirits in prisonwho in the past were disobedient, when God patiently waited in the days of Noah while the ark was being prepared. In it a few— that is, eight people— were saved through water.

It was about these that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied:“ Look! The Lord comes with tens of thousands of his holy onesto execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly concerning all the ungodly acts that they have done in an ungodly way, and concerning all the harsh things ungodly sinners have said against him.”

As the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be.For in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah boarded the ark.They didn’t know until the flood came and swept them all away. This is the way the coming of the Son of Man will be.

Will you continue on the ancient path that wicked men have walked?They were snatched away before their time, and their foundations were washed away by a river.

Then the LORD said to Noah,“ Enter the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you alone are righteous before me in this generation.You are to take with you seven pairs, a male and its female, of all the clean animals, and two of the animals that are not clean, a male and its female,and seven pairs, male and female, of the birds of the sky— in order to keep offspring alive throughout the earth.Seven days from now I will make it rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and every living thing I have made I will wipe off the face of the earth.”And Noah did everything that the LORD commanded him.Noah was six hundred years old when the flood came and water covered the earth.So Noah, his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives entered the ark because of the floodwaters.From the animals that are clean, and from the animals that are not clean, and from the birds and every creature that crawls on the ground,two of each, male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, just as God had commanded him.Seven days later the floodwaters came on the earth.In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the sources of the vast watery depths burst open, the floodgates of the sky were opened,and the rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.On that same day Noah and his three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, entered the ark, along with Noah’s wife and his three sons’ wives.They entered it with all the wildlife according to their kinds, all livestock according to their kinds, all the creatures that crawl on the earth according to their kinds, every flying creature— all the birds and every winged creature— according to their kinds.Two of every creature that has the breath of life in it came to Noah and entered the ark.Those that entered, male and female of every creature, entered just as God had commanded him. Then the LORD shut him in.The flood continued for forty days on the earth; the water increased and lifted up the ark so that it rose above the earth.The water surged and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water.Then the water surged even higher on the earth, and all the high mountains under the whole sky were covered.The mountains were covered as the water surged above them more than twenty feet.Every creature perished— those that crawl on the earth, birds, livestock, wildlife, and those that swarm on the earth, as well as all mankind.Everything with the breath of the spirit of life in its nostrils— everything on dry land died.He wiped out every living thing that was on the face of the earth, from mankind to livestock, to creatures that crawl, to the birds of the sky, and they were wiped off the earth. Only Noah was left, and those that were with him in the ark.And the water surged on the earth 150 days.

When mankind began to multiply on the earth and daughters were born to them,the sons of God saw that the daughters of mankind were beautiful, and they took any they chose as wives for themselves.And the LORD said,“ My Spirit will not remain with mankind forever, because they are corrupt. Their days will be 120 years.”The Nephilim were on the earth both in those days and afterward, when the sons of God came to the daughters of mankind, who bore children to them. They were the powerful men of old, the famous men.When the LORD saw that human wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every inclination of the human mind was nothing but evil all the time,the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and he was deeply grieved.Then the LORD said,“ I will wipe mankind, whom I created, off the face of the earth, together with the animals, creatures that crawl, and birds of the sky— for I regret that I made them.”Noah, however, found favor with the LORD.
