If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder,and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says,“ Let us follow other gods”( gods you have not known)“ and let us worship them,”you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. (niv)

Is this the way you repay the Lord, you foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you? (niv)

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written:“ Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” (niv)

For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. (niv)

Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets. (niv)

This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!Your prophets, Israel, are like jackals among ruins.You have not gone up to the breaches in the wall to repair it for the people of Israel so that it will stand firm in the battle on the day of the Lord.Their visions are false and their divinations a lie. Even though the Lord has not sent them, they say,“ The Lord declares,” and expect him to fulfill their words.Have you not seen false visions and uttered lying divinations when you say,“ The Lord declares,” though I have not spoken?“‘ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because of your false words and lying visions, I am against you, declares the Sovereign Lord.My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.“‘ Because they lead my people astray, saying,“ Peace,” when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash,therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth.When the wall collapses, will people not ask you,“ Where is the whitewash you covered it with?”“‘ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury.I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you will be destroyed in it; and you will know that I am the Lord.So I will pour out my wrath against the wall and against those who covered it with whitewash. I will say to you,“ The wall is gone and so are those who whitewashed it,those prophets of Israel who prophesied to Jerusalem and saw visions of peace for her when there was no peace, declares the Sovereign Lord.”’“ Now, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy out of their own imagination. Prophesy against themand say,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the women who sew magic charms on all their wrists and make veils of various lengths for their heads in order to ensnare people. Will you ensnare the lives of my people but preserve your own? (niv)

Yes, this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:“ Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have.They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them,” declares the Lord. (niv)

For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. (niv)

They said to you,“ In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” (niv)

Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets tell fortunes for money. Yet they look for the Lord’s support and say,“ Is not the Lord among us? No disaster will come upon us.” (niv)

This is what the Lord Almighty says:“ Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord.They keep saying to those who despise me,‘ The Lord says: You will have peace.’ And to all who follow the stubbornness of their hearts they say,‘ No harm will come to you.’ (niv)

And if anyone still prophesies, their father and mother, to whom they were born, will say to them,‘ You must die, because you have told lies in the Lord’s name.’ Then their own parents will stab the one who prophesies.“ On that day every prophet will be ashamed of their prophetic vision. They will not put on a prophet’s garment of hair in order to deceive. (niv)

So the king of Israel brought together the prophets— about four hundred men— and asked them,“ Shall I go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?”“ Go,” they answered,“ for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.” (niv)
