人若無此、則如目矇、視不及遠、忘其舊日之罪已潔、

凡不具此等美德者、無異短視淺識之心盲、而自忘其舊罪已蒙滌除矣。

But what if these things don’t describe someone at all? Then that person can’t see very well. In fact, they are blind. They have forgotten that their past sins have been washed away.

For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.

But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.

The person who lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten the cleansing from his past sins.

For the one who lacks these qualities is blind or short sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.

For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. Good! Even the demons believe that— and shudder.You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.And the scripture was fulfilled that says,“ Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
