For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

We told you about the time our Lord Jesus Christ came with power. But we didn’t make up clever stories when we told you about it. With our own eyes we saw him in all his majesty.

nor to occupy themselves with myths and interminable genealogies. Such things promote useless speculations rather than God’s redemptive plan that operates by faith.

Now about eight days after these sayings, Jesus took with him Peter, John, and James, and went up the mountain to pray.As he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became very bright, a brilliant white.Then two men, Moses and Elijah, began talking with him.They appeared in glorious splendor and spoke about his departure that he was about to carry out at Jerusalem.Now Peter and those with him were quite sleepy, but as they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel– and not with clever speech, so that the cross of Christ would not become useless.

So we are no longer to be children, tossed back and forth by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of people who craftily carry out their deceitful schemes.

But reject those myths fit only for the godless and gullible, and train yourself for godliness.

And he said to them,“ I tell you the truth, there are some standing here who will not experience death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.”Six days later Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John and led them alone up a high mountain privately. And he was transfigured before them,

Who can endure the day of his coming? Who can keep standing when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire, like a launderer’s soap.

( Look! He is returning with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all the tribes on the earth will mourn because of him. This will certainly come to pass! Amen.)

Above all, understand this: In the last days blatant scoffers will come, being propelled by their own evil urgesand saying,“ Where is his promised return? For ever since our ancestors died, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.”

Now Enoch, the seventh in descent beginning with Adam, even prophesied of them, saying,“ Look! The Lord is coming with thousands and thousands of his holy ones,

When you gather together in the name of our Lord Jesus, and I am with you in spirit, along with the power of our Lord Jesus,

Look, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the LORD arrives.

But be that as it may, I have not burdened you. Yet because I was a crafty person, I took you in by deceit!I have not taken advantage of you through anyone I have sent to you, have I?

When I came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come with superior eloquence or wisdom as I proclaimed the testimony of God.

but we preach about a crucified Christ, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.

As he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, his disciples came to him privately and said,“ Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

I tell you the truth, there are some standing here who will not experience death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”Six days later Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John the brother of James, and led them privately up a high mountain.And he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.Then Moses and Elijah also appeared before them, talking with him.So Peter said to Jesus,“ Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, I will make three shelters– one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said,“ This is my one dear Son, in whom I take great delight. Listen to him!”When the disciples heard this, they were overwhelmed with fear and threw themselves down with their faces to the ground.But Jesus came and touched them.“ Get up,” he said.“ Do not be afraid.”When they looked up, all they saw was Jesus alone.

and not pay attention to Jewish myths and commands of people who reject the truth.

who will transform these humble bodies of ours into the likeness of his glorious body by means of that power by which he is able to subject all things to himself.

But we have rejected shameful hidden deeds, not behaving with deceptiveness or distorting the word of God, but by open proclamation of the truth we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience before God.

For just like the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so the coming of the Son of Man will be.

For who is our hope or joy or crown to boast of before our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not of course you?

who was appointed the Son- of- God- in- power according to the Holy Spirit by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.

The arrival of the lawless one will be by Satan’s working with all kinds of miracles and signs and false wonders,

so that you do not lack any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Then Jesus came up and said to them,“ All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

just as you have given him authority over all humanity, so that he may give eternal life to everyone you have given him.

For we are not like so many others, hucksters who peddle the word of God for profit, but we are speaking in Christ before God as persons of sincerity, as persons sent from God.
