無論進哪一家，先說：‘願平安歸與這家！’那裡若有配得平安的人（“配得平安的人”原文作“平安之子”），你們的平安就必臨到他，不然，就歸給你們。

“人子啊！你要告訴你本國的人，說：‘我使刀劍臨到一地，那地的人民從他們中間選出一個人，作他們的守望者；這人見刀劍臨到那地，就吹響號角，警告眾人；凡聽見號角聲而不接受警告的，刀劍若來把他除滅，他的罪（“罪”原文作“血”）就要歸到自己的頭上；他既然聽見號角聲而不接受警告，所以他的罪（“罪”原文作“血”）要歸到自己的身上；他若接受警告，就可以救回自己的性命了。但是，那守望的人若見刀劍臨到，卻不吹響號角，以致人民沒有受到警告，刀劍來把他們中間的一個人除滅；那人雖然因自己的罪孽被除滅，我卻要因他的死追究守望的人。’“人子啊！我立了你作以色列家守望的人，所以你要聆聽我口中的話，替我警告他們。如果我對惡人說：‘惡人啊，你必定死亡！’你以西結卻不出聲警告惡人離開他所行的，這惡人就必因自己的罪孽死亡，我卻要因他的死追究你。如果你警告惡人，叫他離開他所行的，他仍不轉離，他就必因自己的罪孽死亡，你卻救了自己的性命。

王又派第二個騎兵去。他來到他們那裡，說：“王這樣問：‘平安嗎？’”耶戶說：“平安不平安和你有甚麼關係呢？轉到我後面去吧！”

耶路撒冷啊！我在你的城牆上設立了守望的人；他們晝夜都不緘默；提耶和華之名的啊！你們不要靜止。

所以我今天向你們作證，我是清白的，與眾人的罪（“罪”原文作“血”）無關。因為神的全部計劃，我已經毫無保留地傳給你們了。聖靈既然立你們為全群的監督，牧養神用自己的血所贖來的教會，你們就應當為自己謹慎，也為全群謹慎。我知道在我離開之後，必有兇暴的豺狼進入你們中間，不顧惜羊群。你們自己中間也必有人起來，講些歪曲悖謬的話，引誘門徒跟從他們。所以你們應當警醒，記念我三年之久，晝夜不停地帶著眼淚勸戒你們各人。

關於以東（“以東”原文作“度瑪”，意即寂靜，在這裡暗示以東的困境）的默示：有人從西珥呼叫我說：“守望的啊！黑夜還有多長？守望的啊！黑夜還有多長？”守望的說：“早晨到了，黑夜也會再來；你們若要問，就儘管問；也可以回頭再來問。”

那時，大衛正坐在內外城門中間的地方。守望的人上到城樓的平頂上，舉目觀看，見有一個人獨自跑來。

大衛把身上的東西留在看守物件的人手中，跑到戰陣上去，向他的哥哥們問安。

於是他們取了兩輛戰車和馬匹，王差人去追蹤亞蘭軍，吩咐他們：“去查看吧。”

他的守望者都是瞎眼的，都沒有知識；他們都是啞巴狗，不能吠；只會作夢、躺臥，貪愛睡覺。

押沙龍逃走了。守望的年輕人舉目觀看，看見許多人從後面山坡旁邊的路而來。
