Now the king of Israel said to his servants,“ Are you aware that Ramoth gilead belongs to us, yet we are hesitant to take it out of the hand of the king of Aram?”So he said to Jehoshaphat,“ Will you go to battle with me at Ramoth gilead?” And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ Consider me yours, my people yours, and my horses yours!”

And Hazael said,“ Why is my lord weeping?” And he answered,“ Because I know the evil that you will do to the sons of Israel: you will set their fortified cities on fire, you will kill their young men with the sword, their little ones you will smash to pieces, and you will rip up their pregnant women.”Then Hazael said,“ But what is your servant— a lowly dog— that he could do this great thing?” And Elisha answered,“ The Lord has shown me that you will be king over Aram.”

And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat,“ Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord, and by doing so bring wrath on yourself from the Lord?

Then he went and sent word to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying,“ The king of Moab has broken away from me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?” And he said,“ I will go up. Consider me yours, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

Some years later he went down to visit Ahab at Samaria, and Ahab slaughtered many sheep and oxen for him and the people who were with him. And he incited him to go up against Ramoth gilead.Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah,“ Will you go with me against Ramoth gilead?” And he said to him,“ I am as you are, and my people as your people, and we will be with you in the battle.”

but King Joram had returned to Jezreel to have himself healed of the wounds which the Arameans had inflicted on him when he fought Hazael king of Aram. So Jehu said to the other men,“ If this is your intent, then let no one escape from the city to go tell about it in Jezreel.”

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up against Ramoth gilead.

And it shall come about that the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall put to death.
