他並且在猶大的眾山上築造了邱壇，使耶路撒冷的居民變節去服事別的神，他又勾引了猶大人。從神言人以利亞那裏有信來給約蘭、說：『永恆主你祖大衛的上帝這麼說：「因為你沒有走你父親約沙法的路，也沒有走猶大王亞撒的路，乃是走以色列諸王的路，使猶大人和耶路撒冷的居民變節去服事別的神，像亞哈家使以色列人變了節一樣；你並且殺死了你父親家裏比你好的眾兄弟；那麼你就看吧、永恆主必大大擊打你的人民、你的妻子和兒女、跟你一切的財物。你本身呢、必患重病，腸子的病，直到你的腸子因病日日沉重的緣故都墜出來。」』後來永恆主激動了非利士人和貼着古實邊緣的亞拉伯人的心來攻打約蘭。他們上來攻擊猶大，闖進境內，擄掠了王宮所有的財物，以及他的兒女、妻子；除了他的小兒子約哈斯之外、沒有給他剩下一個兒子。這些事以後、永恆主擊打了約蘭，使他的腸子患了不能醫治的病。這樣日過一日，過了二年，他的腸子老是因病而墜出來，他就因病重而死。他的人民沒有為他舉行甚麼焚燒禮，像從前為他列祖所焚燒的一樣。約蘭登極的時候三十二歲；在耶路撒冷作王有八年；他去世沒有人思慕。人將他埋葬在大衛城裏，只是不在諸王的墳墓裏。
