我們為何靜坐不動呢？我們當聚集，進入堅固城，在那裏靜默不言；因為耶和華－我們的上帝使我們靜默不言，又將苦水給我們喝，都因我們得罪了耶和華。

那時王正與神人的僕人基哈西談話，說：「你把以利沙所做的一切大事告訴我。」

「患有痲瘋災病的人，他的衣服要撕裂，也要蓬頭散髮，遮住上唇，喊着說：『不潔淨！不潔淨！』災病還在他身上的時候，他就是不潔淨的；既然不潔淨，他就要獨居，住在營外。」

我們若說要進城去，城裏有饑荒，我們必死在那裏。若我們在這裏坐着不動，也必死。現在，來吧，我們去向亞蘭人的軍隊投降。若他們饒我們的命，我們就活着；若殺我們，我們就死吧！」

亞蘭王的元帥乃縵在他主人面前是一個偉大的人，得王的喜悅，因為耶和華曾藉他使亞蘭人得勝。他雖然是大能的勇士，卻染上了痲瘋。

你和你的百姓何必因刀劍、饑荒、瘟疫而死亡，像耶和華所論不肯服事巴比倫王的國家呢？
