Why are we sitting here? Gather together! Let us flee to the fortified cities and perish there! For the Lord our God has doomed us to perish and given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against him.

The king was talking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, and had said,“ Tell me about all the great things Elisha has done.”

“ Anyone with such a defiling disease must wear torn clothes, let their hair be unkempt, cover the lower part of their face and cry out,‘ Unclean! Unclean!’As long as they have the disease they remain unclean. They must live alone; they must live outside the camp.

If we say,‘ We’ll go into the city’— the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die. So let’s go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die.”

Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the Lord had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.

Why will you and your people die by the sword, famine and plague with which the Lord has threatened any nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?
