The king got up in the night and said to his officers,“ I will tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know we are starving; so they have left the camp to hide in the countryside, thinking,‘ They will surely come out, and then we will take them alive and get into the city.’”

王在夜间起来，对他的臣仆说：“我告诉你们亚兰人对我们所作的是怎么一回事。他们知道我们闹饥荒，所以出到军营外在田野埋伏，心里说：‘他们必从城里出来。我们就可以活捉他们，进入城里去了。’”

王夜起、謂其臣曰、亞蘭人於我所為、我以示爾、彼知我飢、故出營伏於田、意謂其人出城時、我儕則生擒之、而入其邑、

未及黎明、王夙興、謂厥臣工曰、亞蘭人所為、我指示爾。彼知我饑、故出營、匿於田、待我出城、則生擒、而襲我邑。

The king of Israel got up in the night. He spoke to his officers. He said,“ I’ll tell you what the men of Aram have done to us. They know we are very hungry. So they have left the camp to hide in the countryside. They are thinking,‘ We are sure they’ll come out. Then we’ll take them alive. And we’ll get into the city.’ ”

And the king rose in the night and said to his servants,“ I will tell you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the open country, thinking,‘ When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive and get into the city.’”

The king got out of bed in the middle of the night and told his officers,“ I know what has happened. The Arameans know we are starving, so they have left their camp and have hidden in the fields. They are expecting us to leave the city, and then they will take us alive and capture the city.”

So the king got up in the night and said to his servants,“ Let me tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know we are starving, so they have left the camp to hide in the open country, thinking,‘ When they come out of the city, we will take them alive and go into the city.’”

with these orders:“ Listen carefully. You are to set an ambush behind the city. Don’t go very far from it. All of you be on the alert.

There was a great famine in the city; the siege lasted so long that a donkey’s head sold for eighty shekels of silver, and a quarter of a cab of seed pods for five shekels.As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him,“ Help me, my lord the king!”The king replied,“ If the Lord does not help you, where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor? From the winepress?”Then he asked her,“ What’s the matter?” She answered,“ This woman said to me,‘ Give up your son so we may eat him today, and tomorrow we’ll eat my son.’So we cooked my son and ate him. The next day I said to her,‘ Give up your son so we may eat him,’ but she had hidden him.”
