有人砍樹、釜斤之鐵已脫、而墜於水、則呼曰、惜哉、我主與、釜乃貸諸他人者。

As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water.“ Oh no, my lord!” he cried out.“ It was borrowed!”

懼害及身、遙立云巴比倫大邑、素稱鞏固、一時刑至、哀哉、

惡者貸金而不償、善者懷仁而相施兮。

以色列王曰、哀哉、耶和華集此三王、付之於摩押人手。

如借人畜、或傷或死、畜主不在、則必償、畜主在、則不償、如為人僱、既受其值、則毋庸償。

上帝僕之從者、夙興而出、見車騎軍旅、環繞城垣、乃曰、哀哉、我主與、我儕將若何。

大邑素衣細布紫絳、飾金玉珠璣、頃刻間、富有遂至貧乏、嗚呼哀哉、

持其斧斤、斬其林木、使豪傑之士盡斫利巴嫩之樹。

以塵埃蒙首、哀哭呼曰、大邑以厥珍寶、使操舟於海者富裕、頃刻間、已至貧乏、嗚呼哀哉、

斧斤己鈍、不加磨礪、則斬伐必費其力、智者知所當為。
