“ Go and find out where he is,” the king ordered.“ Then I can send my men and capture him.” The report came back. The officers said,“ He’s in Dothan.”

And he said,“ Go and see where he is, that I may send and seize him.” It was told him,“ Behold, he is in Dothan.”

“ Go and find out where he is,” the king commanded,“ so I can send troops to seize him.” And the report came back:“ Elisha is at Dothan.”

So the king said,“ Go and see where he is, so I can send men to capture him.” When he was told,“ Elisha is in Dothan,”

So he said,“ Go and see where he is, so that I may send men and take him.” And it was told to him, saying,“ Behold, he is in Dothan.”

So he said,“ Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him.” And it was told him, saying,“ Surely he is in Dothan.”

And he said, Go and see where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

So the king said,“ Go and see where he is, so I can send men to capture him.” When he was told,“ Elisha is in Dothan,”

And he said, Go and spy where he[ is], that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold,[ he is] in Dothan.

The king ordered,“ Go, find out where he is, so I can send some men to capture him.” The king was told,“ He is in Dothan.”

He said,“ Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him.” He was told,“ Behold, he is in Dothan.”

“ They have moved on from here,” the man answered.“ I heard them say,‘ Let’s go to Dothan.’” So Joseph went after his brothers and found them near Dothan.

Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin.“ What are we accomplishing?” they asked.“ Here is this man performing many signs.If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.”Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up,“ You know nothing at all!You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.”He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation,and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.So from that day on they plotted to take his life.

Instead, the king commanded Jerahmeel, a son of the king, Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to arrest Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the Lord had hidden them.

He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent. His eyes watch in secret for his victims;like a lion in cover he lies in wait. He lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength.

The next morning some Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.More than forty men were involved in this plot.They went to the chief priests and the elders and said,“ We have taken a solemn oath not to eat anything until we have killed Paul.Now then, you and the Sanhedrin petition the commander to bring him before you on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about his case. We are ready to kill him before he gets here.”But when the son of Paul’s sister heard of this plot, he went into the barracks and told Paul.Then Paul called one of the centurions and said,“ Take this young man to the commander; he has something to tell him.”So he took him to the commander. The centurion said,“ Paul, the prisoner, sent for me and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you.”The commander took the young man by the hand, drew him aside and asked,“ What is it you want to tell me?”He said:“ Some Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul before the Sanhedrin tomorrow on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about him.Don’t give in to them, because more than forty of them are waiting in ambush for him. They have taken an oath not to eat or drink until they have killed him. They are ready now, waiting for your consent to their request.”The commander dismissed the young man with this warning:“ Don’t tell anyone that you have reported this to me.”Then he called two of his centurions and ordered them,“ Get ready a detachment of two hundred soldiers, seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea at nine tonight.Provide horses for Paul so that he may be taken safely to Governor Felix.”He wrote a letter as follows:Claudius Lysias, To His Excellency, Governor Felix: Greetings.This man was seized by the Jews and they were about to kill him, but I came with my troops and rescued him, for I had learned that he is a Roman citizen.

When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born.“ In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied,“ for this is what the prophet has written:“‘ But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared.He sent them to Bethlehem and said,“ Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”

The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, intent on putting them to death;but the Lord will not leave them in the power of the wicked or let them be condemned when brought to trial.

The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright.

Go and get more information. Find out where David usually goes and who has seen him there. They tell me he is very crafty.Find out about all the hiding places he uses and come back to me with definite information. Then I will go with you; if he is in the area, I will track him down among all the clans of Judah.”
