王曰、往視其人何在、我則遣人執之、或告曰、在多坍、

曰、往哉、觀其所居、我將遣人執之而至。曰、彼在多丹。

王曰、爾往探以利沙於何處、我將遣人擒之、或告之曰、彼在多坍、

“ Go, find out where he is,” the king ordered,“ so I can send men and capture him.” The report came back:“ He is in Dothan.”

“ Go and find out where he is,” the king ordered.“ Then I can send my men and capture him.” The report came back. The officers said,“ He’s in Dothan.”

And he said,“ Go and see where he is, that I may send and seize him.” It was told him,“ Behold, he is in Dothan.”

“ Go and find out where he is,” the king commanded,“ so I can send troops to seize him.” And the report came back:“ Elisha is at Dothan.”

So he said,“ Go and see where he is, so that I may send men and take him.” And it was told to him, saying,“ Behold, he is in Dothan.”

So he said,“ Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him.” And it was told him, saying,“ Surely he is in Dothan.”

And he said, Go and see where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

So the king said,“ Go and see where he is, so I can send men to capture him.” When he was told,“ Elisha is in Dothan,”

And he said, Go and spy where he[ is], that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold,[ he is] in Dothan.

The king ordered,“ Go, find out where he is, so I can send some men to capture him.” The king was told,“ He is in Dothan.”

He said,“ Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him.” He was told,“ Behold, he is in Dothan.”

“ They’ve moved on from here,” the man said.“ I heard them say,‘ Let’s go to Dothan.’” So Joseph set out after his brothers and found them at Dothan.

So the chief priests and the Pharisees convened the Sanhedrin and were saying,“ What are we going to do since this man is doing many signs?If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”One of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them,“ You know nothing at all!You’re not considering that it is to your advantage that one man should die for the people rather than the whole nation perish.”He did not say this on his own, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation,and not for the nation only, but also to unite the scattered children of God.So from that day on they plotted to kill him.

Then the king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to seize the scribe Baruch and the prophet Jeremiah, but the LORD hid them.

He waits in ambush near settlements; he kills the innocent in secret places. His eyes are on the lookout for the helpless;he lurks in secret like a lion in a thicket. He lurks in order to seize a victim; he seizes a victim and drags him in his net.So he is oppressed and beaten down; helpless people fall because of the wicked one’s strength.

When it was morning, the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.There were more than forty who had formed this plot.These men went to the chief priests and elders and said,“ We have bound ourselves under a solemn curse that we won’t eat anything until we have killed Paul.So now you, along with the Sanhedrin, make a request to the commander that he bring him down to you as if you were going to investigate his case more thoroughly. But, before he gets near, we are ready to kill him.”But the son of Paul’s sister, hearing about their ambush, came and entered the barracks and reported it to Paul.Paul called one of the centurions and said,“ Take this young man to the commander, because he has something to report to him.”So he took him, brought him to the commander, and said,“ The prisoner Paul called me and asked me to bring this young man to you, because he has something to tell you.”The commander took him by the hand, led him aside, and inquired privately,“ What is it you have to report to me?”“ The Jews,” he said,“ have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the Sanhedrin tomorrow, as though they are going to hold a somewhat more careful inquiry about him.Don’t let them persuade you, because there are more than forty of them lying in ambush— men who have bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready, waiting for your consent.”So the commander dismissed the young man and instructed him,“ Don’t tell anyone that you have informed me about this.”He summoned two of his centurions and said,“ Get two hundred soldiers ready with seventy cavalry and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea at nine tonight.Also provide mounts to ride so that Paul may be brought safely to Felix the governor.”He wrote the following letter:Claudius Lysias, To the most excellent governor Felix: Greetings.When this man had been seized by the Jews and was about to be killed by them, I arrived with my troops and rescued him because I learned that he is a Roman citizen.

So he assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Messiah would be born.“ In Bethlehem of Judea,” they told him,“ because this is what was written by the prophet:And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah: Because out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.”Then Herod secretly summoned the wise men and asked them the exact time the star appeared.He sent them to Bethlehem and said,“ Go and search carefully for the child. When you find him, report back to me so that I too can go and worship him.”

The wicked one lies in wait for the righteous and intends to kill him;the LORD will not leave him in the power of the wicked one or allow him to be condemned when he is judged.

The wicked person schemes against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him.The Lord laughs at him because he sees that his day is coming.The wicked have drawn the sword and strung the bow to bring down the poor and needy and to slaughter those whose way is upright.

Go and check again. Investigate where he goes and who has seen him there; they tell me he is extremely cunning.Investigate all the places where he hides. Then come back to me with accurate information, and I’ll go with you. If it turns out he really is in the region, I’ll search for him among all the clans of Judah.”
