婦遂往告上帝僕、上帝僕曰、鬻油償債、所餘者、爾與子賴以度日、○

婦至上帝僕所以告。彼曰、可鬻此油、以償所貸之金、尚有餘焉、爾與爾子、以供日用。○

婦至神人前告之、神人曰、爾往售油償債、所餘者、爾與子可賴以度日、○

She went and told the man of God, and he said,“ Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”

She went and told the man of God about it. He said,“ Go and sell the oil. Pay what you owe. You and your sons can live on what is left.”

She came and told the man of God, and he said,“ Go, sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on the rest.”

When she told the man of God what had happened, he said to her,“ Now sell the olive oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on what is left over.”

She went and told the man of God, and he said,“ Go sell the oil and pay your debt; you and your sons can live on the rest.”

So she came and told the man of God. And he said,“ Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your sons can live on the rest.”

Then she came and told the man of God. And he said,“ Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”

She went and told the prophet. He said,“ Go, sell the olive oil. Repay your creditor, and then you and your sons can live off the rest of the profit.”

For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you,nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you.We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate.For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule:“ The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies.Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. (niv)

Surely you remember, brothers and sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you.You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed. (niv)

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable— if anything is excellent or praiseworthy— think about such things. (niv)

But this word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God: (niv)

so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. (niv)

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. (niv)

The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously; (niv)
