Nevertheless he clung to the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit; he did not turn away from them.

But he kept on committing the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat. Jeroboam had also caused Israel to commit those same sins. Joram didn’t turn away from them.

And Jeroboam said in his heart,“ Now the kingdom will return to the house of David.If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will return to their lord, to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”So the king consulted, and he made two golden calves; and he said to the people,“ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold your gods, Israel, that brought you up from the land of Egypt.”And he set up one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.Now this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one as far as Dan.And he made houses on high places, and appointed priests from all the people who were not of the sons of Levi.Jeroboam also instituted a feast in the eighth month on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar. So he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves which he had made. And he stationed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.Then he went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, the month that he had devised in his own heart; and he instituted a feast for the sons of Israel and went up to the altar to burn incense.

And as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he married Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him.

And when they entered the house of Baal, the house of Baal was filled from one end to the other.And he said to the one who was in charge of the wardrobe,“ Bring out garments for all the worshipers of Baal.” So he brought out the garments for them.Then Jehu entered the house of Baal with Jehonadab the son of Rechab; and he said to the worshipers of Baal,“ Search carefully and see to it that there is here with you none of the servants of the Lord, but only the worshipers of Baal.”Then they entered to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed for himself eighty men outside, and he had said,“ The one who allows any of the men whom I bring into your hands to escape shall give up his life in exchange.”Then it came about, as soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the royal officers,“ Go in, kill them; let none come out.” So they killed them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the royal officers threw them out, and went to the sanctuary of the house of Baal.They brought out the memorial stones of the house of Baal and burned them.They also tore down the memorial stone of Baal and tore down the house of Baal, and made it a latrine as it is to this day.So Jehu eradicated Baal from Israel.However, as for the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, into which he misled Israel, from these Jehu did not desist, including the golden calves that were at Bethel and at Dan.Yet the Lord said to Jehu,“ Because you have done well in performing what is right in My eyes, and have done to the house of Ahab in accordance with everything that was in My heart, your sons to the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.”But Jehu was not careful to walk in the Law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart; he did not desist from the sins of Jeroboam, into which he misled Israel.

And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin into which he misled Israel.

He did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not turn away from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, into which he misled Israel; rather, he walked in them.

After this event, Jeroboam did not abandon his evil way, but he again appointed priests of the high places from all the people; anyone who wanted, he ordained, and he became one of the priests of the high places.
