Then he took his firstborn son, who was to succeed him as king, and offered him as a sacrifice on the city wall. The fury against Israel was great; they withdrew and returned to their own land.

Then the king of Moab took his oldest son. He was the son who would become the next king of Moab. But the king offered his son as a sacrifice on the city wall. That shocked and terrified the men of Israel. So they pulled back and returned to their own land.

Then he took his oldest son who was to reign in his place and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. And there came great wrath against Israel. And they withdrew from him and returned to their own land.

難道永恆主還喜悅千千的公羊，或萬萬的油河麼？難道我可為我的過犯獻我的長子？為我的罪獻我身所生的果子麼？

你向永恆主你的上帝可不要這樣行，因為他們向他們的神行了永恆主所恨惡一切可厭惡的事，甚至將他們的兒女燒在火中、去獻給他們的神。

那麼我從亞捫人那裏平平安安回來時，無論甚麼人先從我家門出來迎接我的、就必歸永恆主；我必將他獻上做燔祭。』

永恆主這麼說：『摩押三番四次地悖逆，我必不收回成命，因為他將以東王的骸骨焚燒成灰。

他們宰獻了自己的兒子和女兒給魔鬼，流了無辜人的血，他們兒女的血，他們所宰獻給迦南之偶像的；那地就因血而被沾污了。

掃羅說：『我們今夜要下去追趕非利士人，擄掠他們、直到晨光發亮，不讓剩下一人。』眾民說：『你看怎麼好，就怎麼行吧。』祭司說：『我們應當先在這裏親近上帝。』掃羅求問上帝說：『我下去追趕非利士人可以不可以？你將他們交在以色列人手裏不交？』這一天上帝沒有回答他。掃羅說：『人民所有的中堅人物啊，你們都要走近前來到這裏，來察知、來看明今天這罪是在哪裏。我指着那拯救以色列的永活永恆主來起誓，即使是我兒子約拿單，他也必須死。』眾民中沒有一個人回答他。掃羅對以色列眾人說：『你們過去在一邊，我和我兒子約拿單過來在一邊』；人民對掃羅說：『你看怎麼好，就怎麼行吧。』掃羅說：『永恆主以色列的上帝啊，你今天為甚麼不回答你僕人呢？這罪孽如果是在我或我兒子約拿單，永恆主以色列的上帝啊，求你給「烏陵」吧；但這罪孽如果是在你人民以色列，那麼、永恆主以色列的上帝啊，求你給「土明」吧。』於是約拿單和掃羅被拈着；人民就出脫無事了。掃羅說：『在我和我兒子約拿單之間、你們再給拈下來吧』；約拿單就被拈着了。掃羅對約拿單說：『告訴我，你幹了甚麼事了？』約拿單告訴掃羅說：『我真地用我手中的杖頭蘸了一點蜜嘗一嘗；看哪，我在這裏；我準備死。』掃羅說：『約拿單哪，你必須死；若不然，願上帝這樣懲罰，並且加倍地懲罰。』人民對掃羅說：『難道約拿單這位在以色列中施行這麼大的拯救的、必須死麼？絕對不可。我們指着永活的永恆主來起誓，連他一根頭髮也不可落地，因為他今天和上帝一同作事。』這樣；人民就贖救了約拿單免致死亡。於是掃羅上去、不追趕非利士人；非利士人也往自己的地方去了。

於是以色列王來到宮中，愁悶不樂往撒瑪利亞去。

上帝說：『你帶着你兒子，你獨生的兒子、你所愛的以撒、到摩利亞地，在我所要對你說明的一個山上、把他獻上來做燔祭。』

兩個月終了，她回到她父親那裏，父親就在她身上實行他所許的願。她是未曾和男人同過房的。於是以色列中有個規矩：

這時忽有一個神言人走近前來見以色列王亞哈說：『這一大隊蜂擁軍兵你不是都看見了麼？看吧，今天我必將他們交在你手裏，你就知道我乃是永恆主。』

亞伯拉罕舉目一看，見後面有隻公綿羊、兩角扣住在稠密小樹裏；亞伯拉罕就去取了那隻公綿羊，獻上做燔祭、來代替他的兒子。

有一個神人走近前來見以色列王說：『永恆主這麼說：「亞蘭人既說：『永恆主是山神，不是山谷的神』，那麼我就要將這一大隊蜂擁軍兵都交在你手裏，你們便知道我乃是永恆主。」』
