The king had all the words of the Book of the Covenant read to them. The book had been found in the Lord’ s temple.

And the king went up to the house of the Lord, and with him all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the prophets, all the people, both small and great. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the Lord.

我又看見死了的人，無論大小，都站在寶座前。案卷都展開了，還有另一卷，就是生命冊，也展開了。死了的人都憑著這些案卷所記載的，照著他們所行的受審判。

他們帶著耶和華的律法書，在猶大教訓人；他們走遍猶大各城，在民間教訓人。

“你們要把這律法書，放在耶和華你們的神的約櫃旁，可以在那裡作反對你們的見證，

老少尊卑都在那裡，奴僕脫離主人的轄制。

那天四分之一的時間，他們站在自己的地方，宣讀耶和華他們的神的律法書；另外四分之一的時間，他們認罪和敬拜耶和華他們的神。

然而，我得到神的幫助，直到今日還是站得穩，向尊卑老幼作見證，我所講的都是眾先知和摩西所論的將來必成的事，

然後擊打那些門外的人，使他們無論老少，都眼目昏眩，以致找不到門口。

這些日子過了，王又為所有在書珊城的人民，無論尊卑大小，在御園的院子裡擺設筵席七天。

他們把城裡的婦女，無論大小（按照《七十士譯本》，“城裡的婦女，無論大小”作“婦女和城裡所有的人，無論大小”）都擄走了。他們沒有殺人，都帶著他們從原路回去了。

運到那裡以後，耶和華的手攻擊那城，引起很大的恐慌。他擊打全城的人，不分老幼，使痔瘡在他們中間蔓延。

那時，他們宣讀摩西的書給眾民聽，見書上寫著說：亞捫人和摩押人永遠不可進入神的會，

到了七月，以色列人都住在自己的城裡。（《馬索拉文本》以本句為7:73下半節）那時眾民如同一人，在水門前的廣場聚集，請經學家以斯拉把耶和華藉摩西命令以色列人遵守的律法書帶來。七月初一日，以斯拉祭司把律法書帶到所有聽了能明白的男女會眾面前。在水門前面的廣場，從清早到中午，向眾男女和聽了能明白的人宣讀出來。眾民都側耳傾聽這律法書的話。經學家以斯拉站在為這事特製的木臺上；站在他右邊的，有瑪他提雅、示瑪、亞奈雅、烏利亞、希勒家和瑪西雅；站在他左邊的，有毘大雅、米沙利、瑪基雅、哈順、哈拔大拿、撒迦利亞和米書蘭。以斯拉在眾人眼前展開那書卷；他高高地站在眾民以上，他把書卷展開，眾民就站起來。以斯拉稱頌耶和華至大的神，眾民舉手應聲說：“阿們！阿們！”然後跪下，臉伏在地，敬拜耶和華。然後利未人耶書亞、巴尼、示利比、雅憫、亞谷、沙比太、荷第雅、瑪西雅、基利他、亞撒利雅、約撒拔、哈難和毘萊雅就教導他們明白律法。眾人一直站在原處聆聽。他們宣讀神的律法，把意義清楚翻譯出來，使眾民明白所宣讀的。

不尋求耶和華以色列的神的，無論男女老幼，都必處死。

敬畏耶和華的，無論大小尊卑，他都必賜福。

約櫃裡面只有兩塊石版，這兩塊石版在以色列人出埃及地以後，耶和華與他們立約的時候，摩西在何烈山放在那裡的。
