你要細察完全人，觀看正直人；因為愛和平的必有後代。

義人死亡，沒有人放在心上；虔誠人去世，也沒有人明白；義人去世，是脫離了禍患。行事為人正直的，死後必得進入平安，在他們的墳墓裡享安息。

不要為那已死的人哀哭，不要為他悲傷；卻要為那遠去的人大大哀哭，因為他不得再回來，也不能再見自己的國土。

你的壽數滿足，歸你列祖那裡的時候，我必興起你的後裔接替你，他是你的眾子中的一位；我必堅立他的國。

難道你是用香柏木爭勝來表明王的身分嗎？你父親不是也吃也喝，也施行公正和公義嗎？那時他得享福樂。他為困苦和貧窮人伸冤，那時他得享福樂。這不是認識我的真義嗎？”這是耶和華的宣告。

耶和華對摩西說：“看哪，你快要和你的列祖長眠了；這人民要起來，在他們所要去的地方，在那地的人中，與外族人的神行邪淫，離棄我，破壞我與他們所立的約。

我必使你歸到你的列祖那裡去，你必平平安安歸入你的墳墓。我所要降在這地方和這地上的居民身上的一切災禍，你必不會親眼看見。’”他們就把這番話回覆王去了。

亞伯拉罕壽高年老，享盡天年，氣絕而死，歸到他的先人那裡去了。

在約西亞的日子，埃及王法老尼哥上來幼發拉底河幫助（按照《馬索拉文本》，“幫助”應作“上去”）亞述王，約西亞王竟去迎戰他，法老看見他的時候，就把他殺死在米吉多。他的臣僕把他的屍體從米吉多用馬車運載，送到耶路撒冷，把他埋葬在他自己的墳墓裡。國民選舉約西亞的兒子約哈斯，膏了他，立他接續他父親作王。
