But never again prophesy at Bethel, For it is the king’s sanctuary, And it is the royal residence.”

Has not my soul grieved for the poor?But when I looked for good, evil came to me; And when I waited for light, then came darkness.My heart is in turmoil and cannot rest; Days of affliction confront me.I go about mourning, but not in the sun; I stand up in the assembly and cry out for help.I am a brother of jackals, And a companion of ostriches.My skin grows black and falls from me; My bones burn with fever.My harp is turned to mourning, And my flute to the voice of those who weep.

“ Come to Bethel and transgress, At Gilgal multiply transgression; Bring your sacrifices every morning, Your tithes every three days.

Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, And put away evil from your flesh, For childhood and youth are vanity.

But in my adversity they rejoiced And gathered together; Attackers gathered against me, And I did not know it; They tore at me and did not cease;

Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment.

Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the Lord, They have provoked to anger The Holy One of Israel, They have turned away backward.

Even a child is known by his deeds, Whether what he does is pure and right.

Thus it shall be done to you, O Bethel, Because of your great wickedness. At dawn the king of Israel Shall be cut off utterly.

The people will be oppressed, Every one by another and every one by his neighbor; The child will be insolent toward the elder, And the base toward the honorable.”

and saying,“ You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said,“ He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him.He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”

But do not seek Bethel, Nor enter Gilgal, Nor pass over to Beersheba; For Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, And Bethel shall come to nothing.
