When the sons of the prophets from Jericho who were observing saw him, they said,“ The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They came to meet him and bowed down to the ground in front of him.

The company of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said,“ The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

The group of prophets from Jericho were watching. They said,“ The spirit of Elijah has been given to Elisha.” They went over to Elisha. They bowed down to him with their faces toward the ground.

Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said,“ The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

When the group of prophets from Jericho saw from a distance what happened, they exclaimed,“ Elijah’s spirit rests upon Elisha!” And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho opposite him saw him, they said,“ The spirit of Elijah has settled on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed down to the ground before him.

Now when the sons of the prophets who were from Jericho saw him, they said,“ The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him, and bowed to the ground before him.

And when the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho over against him saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

When the sons of the prophets from Jericho who were facing him saw him, they said,“ The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They came to meet him and bowed down to the ground in front of him.

And when the sons of the prophets which[ were] to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

When the members of the prophetic guild in Jericho, who were standing at a distance, saw him do this, they said,“ The spirit that energized Elijah rests upon Elisha.” They went to meet him and bowed down to the ground before him.

When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho facing him saw him, they said,“ The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

“ When the Counselor comes, the one I will send to you from the Father— the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father— he will testify about me.You also will testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.

“ As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the LORD:“ My Spirit who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of your children’s children, from now on and forever,” says the LORD.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

One of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha,“ Your servant, my husband, has died. You know that your servant feared the LORD. Now the creditor is coming to take my two children as his slaves.”Elisha asked her,“ What can I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She said,“ Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.”Then he said,“ Go out and borrow empty containers from all your neighbors. Do not get just a few.Then go in and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour oil into all these containers. Set the full ones to one side.”

She came, fell at his feet, and bowed to the ground; she picked up her son and left.

Fifty men from the sons of the prophets came and stood observing them at a distance while the two of them stood by the Jordan.

The sons of the prophets said to Elisha,“ Please notice that the place where we live under your supervision is too small for us.Please let us go to the Jordan where we can each get a log and can build ourselves a place to live there.”“ Go,” he said.Then one said,“ Please come with your servants.”“ I’ll come,” he answered.So he went with them, and when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees.As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water, and he cried out,“ Oh, my master, it was borrowed!”Then the man of God asked,“ Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, the man of God cut a piece of wood, threw it there, and made the iron float.Then he said,“ Pick it up.” So he reached out and took it.

If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.

The LORD spoke to Joshua:“ Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, so they will know that I will be with you just as I was with Moses.

Confer some of your authority on him so that the entire Israelite community will obey him.

But he said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.

Then the LORD descended in the cloud and spoke to him. He took some of the Spirit who was on Moses and placed the Spirit on the seventy elders. As the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they never did it again.Two men had remained in the camp, one named Eldad and the other Medad; the Spirit rested on them— they were among those listed, but had not gone out to the tent— and they prophesied in the camp.A young man ran and reported to Moses,“ Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”Joshua son of Nun, assistant to Moses since his youth, responded,“ Moses, my lord, stop them!”But Moses asked him,“ Are you jealous on my account? If only all the LORD’s people were prophets and the LORD would place his Spirit on them!”

On that day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, and they revered him throughout his life, as they had revered Moses.

The men of the city said to Elisha,“ My lord can see that even though the city’s location is good, the water is bad and the land unfruitful.”
