And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place.It shall be that whoever escapes the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill; and whoever escapes the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill.Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him.And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said,“ Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him,“ Go back again, for what have I done to you?”So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen’s equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah, and became his servant.

Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem,

Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:

And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them,“ Come up here.” And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them.

And Elisha returned to Gilgal, and there was a famine in the land. Now the sons of the prophets were sitting before him; and he said to his servant,“ Put on the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.”

And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from you, that the Spirit of the Lord will carry you to a place I do not know; so when I go and tell Ahab, and he cannot find you, he will kill me. But I your servant have feared the Lord from my youth.

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said,“ It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!”
