And Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel, and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place.And the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael shall Jehu put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha put to death.Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him.And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said,“ Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him,“ Go back again, for what have I done to you?”And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him.

When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.

And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them,“ Come up here!” And they went up to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies watched them.

And Elisha came again to Gilgal when there was a famine in the land. And as the sons of the prophets were sitting before him, he said to his servant,“ Set on the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.”

And as soon as I have gone from you, the Spirit of the Lord will carry you I know not where. And so, when I come and tell Ahab and he cannot find you, he will kill me, although I your servant have feared the Lord from my youth.

And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying,“ It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”
