因为主使亚兰人的军队听见战车、战马和大军的声音；他们就彼此说：“看哪，一定是以色列王雇用了赫人的众王和埃及人的众王来攻击我们。”

他射出箭来，使它们四散；他连连发出闪电，使它们混乱。耶和华斥责一发，你鼻孔的气一出，海底就出现，大地的根基也显露。

他们因神的气息而灭亡，因他的怒气而消灭。

那天晚上，耶和华的使者出去，在亚述军营杀了十八万五千人。早上，他们起来的时候，看哪，到处都是死尸。于是亚述王西拿基立拔营离开，回去住在尼尼微。一日，他正在他的神亚斯洛的庙中叩拜的时候，亚得米勒和沙利色用刀刺杀了他，然后逃到亚拉腊地。他的儿子以撒哈顿接续他作王。

恐怖之声常在他的耳中，太平的时候，强盗就来袭击他。

却要以公义审判贫穷人，以正直判断地上的困苦人；以口中的杖击打世界，以嘴里的气杀死恶人。

我们的神来临，决不缄默无声；在他面前有火燃烧，在他四周有暴风刮起。

耶和华这样说：“看哪！我必激动毁灭者的心，去攻击巴比伦和住在立加米的人。

耶和华必使火炭落在恶人身上，烈火、硫磺和旱风是他们杯中的分。

我从耶和华那里听见了一个信息，有一位使者被派往列国去，说：“你们要聚集去攻击以东，要起来争战！”

你们不要心惊胆怯，也不要因在境内听到的谣言惧怕；因为今年有谣言传来，明年也会有谣言传来，境内有强暴的事，官长互相攻击。

俄巴底亚所见的异象。主耶和华指着以东这样说：我们从耶和华那里听见了一个信息，有一位使者被派往列国去，说：“起来吧！我们起来与以东争战。”

因此，主万军之耶和华必打发令人消瘦的病临到亚述王肥壮的军人中间，在他的荣耀之下必燃起火焰，如同火烧一样。以色列的光必变成火，他的圣者必成为火焰；在一日之间把亚述王的荆棘和蒺藜焚烧与吞灭。又把他树林和丰盛果园的荣美全部灭尽，包括灵魂和身体，好像一个患病的人渐渐虚弱一样。

耶和华就差派一位使者，进入亚述王的军营中，把所有英勇的战士、官长和将帅，尽都消灭了。亚述王满面羞愧返回本国去了。他进入自己的神庙的时候，他亲生的儿子在那里用刀把他杀了。
