原來，主使亞蘭人聽見大隊人馬和戰車的聲音。他們以為以色列王雇用了赫人的諸王和埃及人的諸王來攻營，

祂射出利箭驅散仇敵，發出閃電擊潰他們。耶和華啊，你斥責一聲，鼻孔一吹氣，海底就顯現，大地也露出根基。

他們被上帝的氣息所毀，被上帝的怒氣所滅。

當晚，耶和華的天使到亞述營中殺了十八萬五千人。人們清早起來，發現到處是屍體。亞述王西拿基立便拔營回國，住在尼尼微。一天，亞述王在他的神明尼斯洛的廟裡祭拜時，他的兩個兒子亞得米勒和沙利色用刀殺了他，逃往亞拉臘。他的另一個兒子以撒哈頓繼位。

他耳邊響著恐怖的聲音，他安逸時遭強盜襲擊。

而是按公義審判貧窮人，以公正為受苦者斷案。他必用口中的杖擊打世界，以嘴裡的氣殺戮惡人。

我們的上帝來臨，並非悄然無聲，祂前面有烈火燃燒，周圍有暴風怒吼。

耶和華說：「看啊，我要使毀滅的暴風襲擊巴比倫和住在立加米的人。

祂要把烈焰熊熊的火炭和硫磺降在惡人身上，用炙熱的風懲罰他們。

我從耶和華那裡聽到消息，有位使者被派去聯合列國來攻打以東。

境內謠言四起時，你們不要驚慌害怕，因為今年傳這風聲，明年卻傳那風聲，說境內必有暴亂，官長要互相殘殺。

俄巴底亞看到的異象。論到以東，主耶和華這樣說：「我們從耶和華那裡聽到消息，有位使者被派到各國，說，『來！我們去攻打以東吧！』」

因此，主——萬軍之耶和華必使亞述王強健的士兵疾病纏身，使火焰吞噬他的榮耀。以色列的光必成為火焰，他們的聖者必成為烈火，一日之間燒光亞述王的荊棘和蒺藜。他茂盛的樹林和肥美的田園必被徹底摧毀，猶如病人漸漸消亡。

耶和華就差遣一個天使進入亞述王營中，毀滅了所有的勇士、官長和將領。西拿基立只好滿臉羞愧地返回自己的國家。趁他去他神明的廟裡時，他的幾個親生兒子用刀殺了他。
