七月十七日，方舟停在亞拉臘山上。

就去見所羅巴伯和以色列的族長，對他們說：「請容我們與你們一同建造；因為我們尋求你們的神，與你們一樣。自從亞述王以撒哈頓帶我們上這地以來，我們常祭祀神。」

要在境內豎立大旗，在各國中吹角，使列國預備攻擊巴比倫，將亞拉臘、米尼、亞實基拿各國招來攻擊她；又派軍長來攻擊她，使馬匹上來如螞蚱，

我必驚動他的心，他要聽見風聲就歸回本地。我必使他在那裏倒在刀下。』」

我列祖所滅的國，那些神中誰能救自己的民脫離我手呢？難道你們的神能救你們脫離我手嗎？

也不要聽希西家使你們倚靠耶和華，說耶和華必要拯救我們，這城必不交在亞述王的手中。』

「你們對猶大王希西家如此說：『不要聽你所倚靠的神欺哄你，說耶路撒冷必不交在亞述王的手中。

希西家倚靠耶和華－以色列的神，在他前後的猶大列王中沒有一個及他的。

他們論耶路撒冷的神，如同論世上人手所造的神一樣。

亞述王西拿基立就拔營回去，住在尼尼微。一日在他的神－尼斯洛廟裏叩拜，他兒子亞得米勒和沙利色用刀殺了他，就逃到亞拉臘地。他兒子以撒哈頓接續他作王。

據我們的仇敵自己斷定，他們的磐石不如我們的磐石。

耶和華就差遣一個使者進入亞述王營中，把所有大能的勇士和官長、將帥盡都滅了。亞述王滿面含羞地回到本國，進了他神的廟中，有他親生的兒子在那裏用刀殺了他。
