This is what the Lord says about him:“ The virgin daughter Zion despises you, she makes fun of you; Daughter Jerusalem shakes her head after you.

This is the word that the Lord has spoken against him:“‘ Virgin Daughter Zion despises you and mocks you. Daughter Jerusalem tosses her head as you flee.

Here is the message the Lord has spoken against him. The Lord says,“‘ You will not win the battle over Zion. Its people hate you and make fun of you. The people of Jerusalem lift up their heads proudly as you run away.

This is the word that the Lord has spoken concerning him:“ She despises you, she scorns you— the virgin daughter of Zion; she wags her head behind you— the daughter of Jerusalem.

And the Lord has spoken this word against him:“ The virgin daughter of Zion despises you and laughs at you. The daughter of Jerusalem shakes her head in derision as you flee.

This is the word the LORD has spoken against him: Virgin Daughter Zion despises you and scorns you; Daughter Jerusalem shakes her head behind your back.

This is the word that the Lord has spoken against him:‘ She, the virgin daughter of Zion, has shown contempt for you and mocked you; She, the daughter of Jerusalem, has shaken her head behind you!

This is the word which the Lord has spoken concerning him:‘ The virgin, the daughter of Zion, Has despised you, laughed you to scorn; The daughter of Jerusalem Has shaken her head behind your back!

This is the word that Jehovah hath spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion hath despised thee and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.

This is the word the Lord has spoken against him: Virgin Daughter Zion despises you and scorns you: Daughter Jerusalem shakes her head behind your back.

This[ is] the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of Zion hath despised thee,[ and] laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.

This is the word that Yahweh has spoken concerning him:‘ The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

With what can I equate you? To what can I compare you, O Daughter Jerusalem? To what can I liken you so that I might comfort you, O Virgin Daughter Zion? Your wound is as deep as the sea. Who can heal you?נ( Nun)

“ Tell these people this, Jeremiah:‘ My eyes overflow with tears day and night without ceasing. For my people, my dear children, have suffered a crushing blow. They have suffered a serious wound.

I also could speak like you, if you were in my place; I could pile up words against you and I could shake my head at you.

I am disdained by them. When they see me, they shake their heads.

All who passed by on the road clapped their hands to mock you. They sneered and shook their heads at Daughter Jerusalem.“ Ha! Is this the city they called‘ The perfection of beauty, the source of joy of the whole earth!’?”פ( Pe)

All who see me taunt me; they mock me and shake their heads.They say,“ Commit yourself to the LORD! Let the LORD rescue him! Let the LORD deliver him, for he delights in him.”

Those who passed by defamed him, shaking their heads

“ Fall down! Sit in the dirt, O virgin daughter Babylon! Sit on the ground, not on a throne, O daughter of the Babylonians! Indeed, you will no longer be called delicate and pampered.

I will rebuild you, my dear children Israel, so that you will once again be built up. Once again you will take up the tambourine and join in the happy throng of dancers.

Rejoice and be glad for now, O people of Edom, who reside in the land of Uz. But the cup of judgment will pass to you also; you will get drunk and take off your clothes.ת( Tav)

O daughter Babylon, soon to be devastated! How blessed will be the one who repays you for what you dished out to us!

“ Sit silently! Go to a hiding place, O daughter of the Babylonians! Indeed, you will no longer be called‘ Queen of kingdoms.’

Isaiah son of Amoz sent this message to Hezekiah:“ This is what the LORD God of Israel says:‘ Because you prayed to me concerning King Sennacherib of Assyria,this is what the LORD says about him:“ The virgin daughter Zion despises you– she makes fun of you; daughter Jerusalem shakes her head after you.Whom have you taunted and hurled insults at? At whom have you shouted and looked so arrogantly? At the Holy One of Israel!Through your messengers you taunted the sovereign master,‘ With my many chariots I climbed up the high mountains, the slopes of Lebanon. I cut down its tall cedars and its best evergreens. I invaded its most remote regions, its thickest woods.I dug wells and drank water. With the soles of my feet I dried up all the rivers of Egypt.’Certainly you must have heard! Long ago I worked it out, in ancient times I planned it, and now I am bringing it to pass. The plan is this: Fortified cities will crash into heaps of ruins.Their residents are powerless; they are terrified and ashamed. They are as short-lived as plants in the field or green vegetation. They are as short-lived as grass on the rooftops when it is scorched by the east wind.I know where you live and everything you do and how you rage against me.Because you rage against me and the uproar you create has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle between your lips, and I will lead you back the way you came.”“ This will be your reminder that I have spoken the truth: This year you will eat what grows wild, and next year what grows on its own. He will not attack it with his shielded warriors, nor will he build siege works against it.He will go back the way he came– he will not enter this city,’ says the LORD.I will shield this city and rescue it for the sake of my reputation and because of my promise to David my servant.”’”

Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout, daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your king is coming to you: he is legitimate and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey– on a young donkey, the foal of a female donkey.

He rounded up all my mighty ones; The Lord did this in my midst. He summoned an assembly against me to shatter my young men. The Lord has stomped like grapes the virgin daughter, Judah.ע( Ayin)

Therefore, the LORD says,“ Ask the people of other nations whether they have heard of anything like this. Israel should have been like a virgin. But she has done something utterly revolting!

Daughter Tarshish, travel back to your land, as one crosses the Nile; there is no longer any marketplace in Tyre.

Then I will tell about all your praiseworthy acts; in the gates of Daughter Zion I will rejoice because of your deliverance.”

“ The virgin Israel has fallen down and will not get up again. She is abandoned on her own land with no one to help her get up.”

As for you, watchtower for the flock, fortress of Daughter Zion– your former dominion will be restored, the sovereignty that belongs to Daughter Jerusalem.

He said,“ You will no longer celebrate, oppressed virgin daughter Sidon! Get up, travel to Cyprus, but you will find no relief there.”

Daughter Zion is left isolated, like a hut in a vineyard, or a shelter in a cucumber field; she is a besieged city.

Go up to Gilead and get medicinal ointment, you dear poor people of Egypt. But it will prove useless no matter how much medicine you use; there will be no healing for you.
