製造偶像的人，盡都是虛空的，他們所喜愛的，都沒有益處。他們的見證人，一無所見，一無所知，以致他們蒙羞。誰製造神像，或鑄造偶像，不想得到益處呢？看哪！所有與它同夥的都必蒙羞；工匠也不過是人罷了。讓他們都集合起來，都站立起來；讓他們都懼怕，都一同蒙羞。鐵匠先用工具在鐵上雕刻，然後在火炭中加工，再用鎚子把鐵錘成形狀，用他有力的膀臂錘成。他若飢餓，就沒有力量；他若不喝水，就疲乏。木匠拉線，用筆畫出輪廓，用鉋子鉋平，用圓規畫出模樣，做成人的形狀，有人一般的美麗，好住在廟裡。他為自己砍伐香柏樹，或選取榆樹和橡樹，讓它在樹林中長起來；他栽種松樹，讓雨水使它長大。人可以用這樹作燃料，可以拿來生火取暖，又可以燒著烤餅；人竟然用它做神像敬拜，他做了雕刻的偶像，又向它叩拜。他把木頭的一半放在火裡燃燒；在上面烤肉；吃了烤肉，並且吃飽了，就自己烤火取暖，說：“哈哈！我暖和了，我看見火了。”他用剩下來的一半做了一個神像，就是他雕刻的偶像，他向它俯伏，向它敬拜，又向它禱告，說：“求你救我，因為你是我的神。”他們並不知道，也不明白；因為耶和華閉住他們的眼睛，使他們不能看見，塞住他們的心，使他們不能明白。沒有人細心思想，也沒有人有知識有聰明說：“我把木頭的一半放在火裡燃燒，我也在炭火上烘過餅，烤過肉吃，剩下的，我卻用來做了一個可憎之物，我要向木頭叩拜嗎？”他所追求的只是灰塵，被迷惑了的心使他偏離正道了；他不能救自己，也不會說：“在我的右手中不是有個假神嗎？”

因為萬民所信奉的都是虛空，只是從林中砍下的樹木，是匠人用鑿刀製成的產品。他們用金銀把它修飾，用釘子和鎚子把它釘牢，使它不動搖。它們像瓜田裡的稻草人，不能說話；它們必須要人抬著走，因為它們不能走路。你們不要害怕它們，因它們不能降禍，也不能降福。”耶和華啊！沒有可以跟你相比的；你是偉大的，你的名大有能力。萬國的王啊！誰敢不敬畏你呢？這是你應得的。因為在列國所有的智慧人中，以及在他們的全國裡，沒有可以跟你相比的。他們全是頑梗愚昧，他們所領受的教導是來自那些虛無、木做的偶像。那些偶像鑲有經過錘煉的銀片，銀子是從他施運來的，也有從烏法運來的金子，都是匠人和金匠手作的產品。它們穿著藍色和紫色的衣服，全都是巧匠的作品。

列國的偶像是金的、銀的，是人手所做的。它們有口，卻不能說話；有眼，卻不能看；有耳，卻不能聽；有鼻，卻不能聞；有手，卻不能摸；有腳，卻不能行；也不能用喉嚨發聲。做偶像的必和偶像一樣；凡是倚靠它們的，都必這樣。

非利士人把他們的神像遺棄在那裡，大衛和跟隨他的人就把它們拿走了。

彼勒俯伏，尼波彎腰；巴比倫人的偶像馱在走獸和牲口上。你們所抬的現在都成了重擔，成了疲乏的牲畜身上的重負。它們一同彎腰、俯伏，不能保護重負，它們自己反倒被擄去了。

耶和華啊！亞述列王果然使列國和他們的土地變成荒涼，又把列國的神都扔進火中；因為他們不是神，只是人手所做的，不過是木頭和石頭，所以他們就滅絕了他們。

人人都是頑梗無知；所有的金匠都因偶像羞愧，因為他們鑄造的像都是虛假、沒有氣息的。偶像都是虛無的，是荒謬可笑的作品；到了討罪的時候，它們必被除滅。那作雅各產業的並不像這些偶像，因為他是萬物的創造者；以色列是屬他的民族，萬軍之耶和華是他的名。
