亞述王派他的將軍來辱罵永活的上帝，也許你的上帝耶和華聽見那些話，就會懲罰他。所以，請你為我們這些剩下的人禱告。』」

願你晝夜看顧這殿——你應許立你名的地方！你僕人向著這地方禱告的時候，求你垂聽。

我的上帝啊，求你側耳垂聽，睜眼眷顧我們荒涼的土地和屬於你名下的城。我們向你祈求，並非因為我們有什麼義行，乃是因為你充滿憐憫。

在他眼中，為基督所受的凌辱遠比埃及的財富更有價值，因為他盼望的是將來的賞賜。
