你一聽見我指着這地方和這地方的居民所說的話說，要使這地成了令人驚駭、令人咒詛的對象，你的心便軟了下來，你就在我永恆主面前自己謙卑，又撕裂了衣服，又在我面前哭，因此我也垂聽你的禱告；這是永恆主發神諭說的。

眾民都不作聲，一句話也沒有回答他，因為王是吩咐說：『不要回答他。』當下希西家的兒子、管家以利亞敬、祕書舍伯那和亞薩的兒子、通知官約亞、都來到希西家面前，衣服撕裂，將參謀長的話告訴了他。
