哈馬王陀伊聽說大衛擊敗了哈大底謝的全軍，

耶和華啊，亞述列王確實使列國和它們的國土荒廢，又把它們的神像扔進火中；那些神像之所以被滅絕，是因為它們不是神，只不過是人手所造的，是用木頭、石頭造的！

不要讓希西加唆哄你們，說：耶和華必解救我們。列國的神明中，有哪一個曾解救自己的國土脫離亞述王的手呢？哈馬和亞珥拔的神在哪裡呢？西法瓦音的神在哪裡呢？難道他們曾解救撒馬利亞脫離我的手嗎？

看哪！你必定聽說過亞述列王向各國所行的，就是把它們滅絕淨盡；難道只有你能得解救嗎？我祖先所毀滅的，有歌撒、哈蘭和利色，還有在提拉撒的伊甸子孫，那些國的神明解救他們了嗎？
