『諸王之王亞達薛西、給祭司以斯拉、精於天上上帝之律法的經學士、致意問安：如今

參謀長對他們說：『你們去對希西家說：「大王亞述王這麼說：你所倚靠的這種倚靠心算得了甚麼？

看哪，我要將你比作利巴嫩中的香柏樹，枝條美麗，成蔭之林，樹身高大，樹梢挺立於雲霄間。眾水使它長大，深洋之水使它長高，使它的江河流出，環繞種它之地，散佈它的眾水道流到田野的眾樹。因此其樹身聳然屹立、高過田野的眾樹；由於它出幼枝子時有很多水，它的枝子就多起來，它的枝條就長長。空中的飛鳥都在它的枝子上搭窩；田野的走獸都在它的枝條下生子；許多國的人民都在它的蔭影下住着。它以其高大而美麗，以其枝條之修長而秀美，因為它的根扎在許多水那裏。上帝園中的香柏樹遮它不着，松樹也比不着它的枝子；楓樹不如它的枝條；上帝園中的眾樹都比不着它的美麗。我以其枝條之茂盛而使它美麗，以致上帝園中伊甸的眾樹都羨慕它。『故此永恆主這麼說：其樹身既高聳，其樹梢既挺立於雲霄間，其心既以其高大而驕傲，

因為至高者永恆主是可畏懼的；他是統治全地的大君王。

來傳講說：主永恆主這麼說：『看哪，埃及王法老啊，我跟你為敵，你這棲伏於自己河中的大鱷魚；你曾經說：「我這河是我自己的；我造了它。」

我聽見有聲音、彷彿是極大羣人的聲音、彷彿眾水之聲音、彷彿強有力之雷的聲音、說：『哈利路亞！主我們的上帝、全能者、掌王權了！

亞述王的臣僕用猶大語向城牆上的耶路撒冷人民大聲喊叫，要使他們懼怕驚惶，以便攻取那城。

於是參謀長站着，用猶大語大聲喊叫說：『你們要聽大王亞述王的話。王這麼說：「你們不要給希西家欺哄了，因為他實在不能援救你們；也不要讓希西家使你們倚靠永恆主、說：『永恆主一定會援救我們，而這城必不至於交在亞述王手裏。』你們不要聽希西家的話；因為亞述王這麼說：「你們要向我祝福請安，出來投降我，各人就可以喫自己葡萄樹、自己無花果樹的果子，喝自己井裏的水；等我來領你們到一個地像你們本地一樣；一個有五穀和新酒之地，一個有糧食和葡萄園之地，免得希西家教唆你們說：『永恆主一定會援救我們。』列國的神有哪一位曾援救過他的本地脫離亞述王的手呢？
