「諸王之王亞達薛西，達於祭司以斯拉通達天上神律法大德的文士，云云。

他說：我的臣僕豈不都是王嗎？迦勒挪豈不像迦基米施嗎？哈馬豈不像亞珥拔嗎？撒馬利亞豈不像大馬士革嗎？我手已經搆到有偶像的國；這些國雕刻的偶像過於耶路撒冷和撒馬利亞的偶像。我怎樣待撒馬利亞和其中的偶像，豈不照樣待耶路撒冷和其中的偶像嗎？主在錫安山和耶路撒冷成就他一切工作的時候，主說：「我必罰亞述王自大的心和他高傲眼目的榮耀。」因為他說：我所成就的事是靠我手的能力和我的智慧，我本有聰明。我挪移列國的地界，搶奪他們所積蓄的財寶；並且我像勇士，使坐寶座的降為卑。

拉伯沙基說：「你們去告訴希西家說，亞述大王如此說：『你所倚靠的有甚麼可仗賴的呢？

亞述王曾如黎巴嫩中的香柏樹，枝條榮美，影密如林，極其高大，樹尖插入雲中。眾水使它生長；深水使它長大。所栽之地有江河圍流，汊出的水道延到田野諸樹。所以它高大超過田野諸樹；發旺的時候，枝子繁多，因得大水之力枝條長長。空中的飛鳥都在枝子上搭窩；田野的走獸都在枝條下生子；所有大國的人民都在它蔭下居住。樹大條長，成為榮美，因為根在眾水之旁。神園中的香柏樹不能遮蔽它；松樹不及它的枝子；楓樹不及它的枝條；神園中的樹都沒有它榮美。我使它的枝條蕃多，成為榮美，以致神伊甸園中的樹都嫉妒它。」所以主耶和華如此說：「因它高大，樹尖插入雲中，心驕氣傲，

因為耶和華至高者是可畏的；他是治理全地的大君王。

說主耶和華如此說：埃及王法老啊，我與你這臥在自己河中的大魚為敵。你曾說：這河是我的，是我為自己造的。

我聽見好像羣眾的聲音，眾水的聲音，大雷的聲音，說：哈利路亞！因為主－我們的神、全能者作王了。

亞述王的臣僕用猶大言語向耶路撒冷城上的民大聲呼叫，要驚嚇他們，擾亂他們，以便取城。

於是，拉伯沙基站着，用猶大言語大聲喊着說：「你們當聽亞述大王的話。王如此說：『你們不要被希西家欺哄了，因他不能拯救你們。也不要聽希西家使你們倚靠耶和華說：耶和華必要拯救我們，這城必不交在亞述王的手中。』不要聽希西家的話，因亞述王如此說：『你們要與我和好。出來投降我，各人就可以吃自己葡萄樹和無花果樹的果子，喝自己井裏的水。等我來領你們到一個地方，與你們本地一樣，就是有五穀和新酒之地，有糧食和葡萄園之地。你們要謹防，恐怕希西家勸導你們說：耶和華必拯救我們。列國的神有哪一個救他本國脫離亞述王的手呢？
