拉伯沙基對他們說：“你們要對希西家說：‘亞述大王這樣說：你所倚賴的這種防禦算是甚麼呢？

看哪！亞述曾是黎巴嫩的香柏樹，枝條秀美，林影茂密，樹身高大，樹頂在茂密的枝葉之上。眾水使它長大，深淵使它長高；有江河從深淵流出環繞它栽種之地，又有支流延到田間的眾樹。因此，它樹身高大，高過田間的眾樹；它發旺生長的時候，因為水源豐足，所以枝子繁多，枝條長長。空中的飛鳥都在枝上搭窩；田野的走獸都在枝條下生產；所有大國都在它的樹蔭下居住。它樹身高大，枝條長長而顯得秀美，因為它的根扎在水多的地方。神園中的香柏樹不能與它相比，松樹比不上它的枝子；楓樹也不及它的枝條；神園中所有的樹木都比不上它的秀美。我使它因枝條繁多而顯得秀美，以致在神的園中，伊甸所有的樹木都嫉妒它。“‘因此，主耶和華這樣說：因為它樹身高大，樹頂在茂密的枝葉之上，又因它高大而心驕氣傲，

因為耶和華至高者是可敬畏的，他是統治全地的大君王。

你要說：‘主耶和華這樣說：埃及王法老啊！我要與你為敵，你這臥在自己河中的大海怪，你曾經說過：“這河是我的，是我自己造的。”

我又聽見一個聲音，好像一大群人的聲音，像眾水的聲音，又像大雷的聲音，說：“哈利路亞！因為主、我們全能的神作王了！

亞述王的臣僕用猶大語，向城牆上的耶路撒冷人民大聲呼叫，要驚嚇他們，使他們慌亂，好攻取那城。

於是拉伯沙基站著，用猶大語大聲呼喊說：“你們要聽亞述大王的話，王這樣說：‘你們不要被希西家欺騙了，因為他決不能拯救你們；也不要給希西家說服你們倚靠耶和華，說：耶和華必定拯救我們，這城也必不交在亞述王的手中。’不要聽希西家的話，因為亞述王這樣說：‘你們要與我和好（“與我和好”直譯是“向我祝福問安”），出來向我投降，這樣各人就可以吃自己葡萄樹和無花果樹的果子，也可以喝自己井裡的水；等到我來的時候，就會把你們領到一個與你們本地一樣的地方；就是一個有五穀和新酒的地方，一個有糧食和葡萄園的地方。你們要小心，免得希西家慫恿你們說：耶和華必拯救我們。列國的神有哪一位曾拯救自己的國土脫離亞述王的手呢？
